Yeah the Miura. Poor car, however I read somewhere that the Lamborghini was already damaged due to its last owner. I believe the previous owner was a rich Arab - but I'm not sure. Nevertheless, great film!

matthew david jarvis Real car guys don't give a shit about the plot and the characters! Girls can care about the characters! Car guys just want to see the cars, the girls and the chases! Car guys also prefer their chases to be real (original Gone in 60 Seconds) and not computer generated (Remake of Gone in 60 seconds). SOD the plot! I'll just watch the 40 minute car chase at the end of the original Gone in 60 seconds! I much prefer watching an already VERY beaten Mustang fly through the air and land even more beaten rather than watch a pristine Mustang hit a VERY steep ramp at 90 mph and then fly through the air almost for an eternity and then land looking almost as pristine as before it hit the launch ramp! BOLLOCKS TO THAT CRAP!

Why not both? I love cars, but am also a discerning film buff. Original car chase gone in 60 seconds was fantastic for what was essentially an almost amateur effort. However purely as a movie it was painful to watch. Script and acting very weak in many parts. Zero character development. 'RPM' (1998) was that bad I had to switch the DVD off after 5 minutes. Whilst the original Blues Brothers was a fantastic film that combined many great chase sequences with tight comedy sequences, the sequal was - horrible. Very, very forgettable. The 2nd Italian Job movie as a standalone piece was ok, I thought. Great plot and chemistry between the characters. However if it was to be a proper remake, it digressed way too far from the original plot/concept.

Richard E Bullcrap. Don't even compare H.B. Halicki's Masterpiece: The Real and Only: Gone in 60 seconds. That was not some pos hollywood junk. That was a independent film by the late Great "Car Crash King" independent filmmaker H.B. Halicki. 100-110 thousand dollars made 40 million. And H.B. was not some damn amateur. No ones there to see acting: its the action. You only need dialouge to have a basis. How about you talk about that pos remake from 2000. I couldn't make it through the first 5 minutes without turning off that crap.

Apparently FIAT were very accommodating to the makers of the film providing the various Fiats wrecked in the film for free and paying off the real Mafia to stay out of the way (the gunmen on the hillside when the sports cars get wrecked were genuine Mafia!). Fiat also offered to provide 500s for free to be used in the chase instead of the Minis (BL would only let the film makers have three Minis at cost price!) but the film makers decided that would alter the character of the film too much.

Just seen a clip from Cars That Rock presented by Brian Johnstone of AC/DC in which one guy purchased boxes of parts of Minis destroyed in the film and he managed to make three cars out of the parts that included registration plates!

if it hadn't been for my dad this scene would have been filmed in Italy or America ...the production team had come to Coventry to view some of modifications that were going to be made to the minis when one of the crew said they were in a rush , my dad asked why they said they were looking at tunnels .. my dad pointed out the sewers . he even walked them over to a work site on the junction of valley road stoke heath they thanked him …….. the rest is history

I swear there were parts of the Mini chase that inspired The Blues Brothers. It has to be in the top 10 of all time car chases. Some fools had suggested they used Fiats or Alfas for the chase through Rome, but that 1. wouldn't have been as much fun and 2. not as credible. Italian cars of the 60s were notoriously unreliable anyway. When BL first designed and built the Mini, the idea of front wheel drive was controversial, but they earned their stripes as rally champions. Stunts such as the point where they were goofing around in the sewer pipes wouldn't have been possible without them.

The idea of using Fiats came from Fiat themselves, who wanted the film to use their cars. In the end, the Mini's were chosen for our heroes (?) but Fiat still lent the filmmakers a factory and as many traffic cars and trucks as they needed. It's why almost all the cars you see on the streets of Turin are Fiats.

The Italians were willing to give the movie producers cars for free for the getaway (I think Fiat 500s), but they had to be turned down because they had to be UK made cars. However, BL made them pay full price for the Minis. Apparently our suits were oblivious to the value of advertising, whereas the Italians knew that donating their cars would pay them back many more times the price of the vehicles. A perfect example of why we don't have our own industries anymore.

originally the movie was supposed to end with the great idea being running the fuel out of the bus so they could get off and then the Italian mafia was watching from the bottom of the cliff the bus falls off and the mafia gets the gold and that would have been a sequel set-up but I'm glad they left it like it was
