I was just a kid when Chico and The Man first was on ,but, I thought Freddie Prinze was great. I never knew he guest hosted the Tonight Show, very likable and a great talk show host. What a talent Prinze was, his death was very sad at only 22. Who knows what would have happened to his life and career if things worked out differently?

These were the days when people with talent actually got up and did a live performance that was not lip synced. When asked to sing, they actually SANG. I love the fact that this performance is imperfect in the way that Michael's changing voice cracks a couple of times. It is just more proof that his talent was real, and not manufactured in a studio full of audio enhancements as is the case with most of today's "singing stars." Love this song, and particularly love his delivery of it here.

Had a similar thought. I think Freddie actually had the type of impact on Hispanic Americans like Michael & J-5 had on black Americans growing up, as far as inspiration goes. I mean dude hit it big @ 21 yrs. old, as star of a television sitcom, & got to guest host the tonight show. I don't think the show ever had another guest that young, like EVER! For him to be interviewing the Jackson 5, & the sisters there, to think of the the eventual net worth in that room. Who could know what destiny lied ahead....so yeah, its kinda sad really!

My dad was telling me VCRs were practically in their infancy. Freddie Prinze died in 1977, before VCRs really took off as a format. Most people didn’t have VCRs or any recorder, they just had a dial TV in their living room. Whoever recorded this old footage was certainly ahead of the curve.

@@upmysuccess90s20Good Times star Jimmy Walker came out not too long ago and told a story of his relationship with Freddie Prinze. John Travolta was a fast rising star who was the same age as Freddie. Prinze himself was jealous of John and he tried killing him by shooting arrows at his door. Freddie has largely faded into obscurity, while Travolta remains a well known star for his work on Saturday Night Fever, Grease, and Pulp Fiction.

God I thought Freddie Prinz was soo cute. I loved him in Chico and the Man and used to watch this show. I was soo devastated when he shot himself in 1977. And his little son grew up without a father. Freddie suffered from terrible depression. And his friends say he used to play with guns when he was sad. A court hearing determined it was an accident. But his son Freddie Jr has become a good man and actor so his mom did him good.

I think he may have reached his new voice already, but he was singing a song that he recorded as a child, which makes it a little more difficult to hit certain notes comfortably. Plus, I believe he was still discovering things about his adult voice because he hadn't yet got much of a chance to explore new territory with it since they had him singing J5/kid solo songs so frequently. At that time, those songs were there most current hits aside from the new Philly label songs.

In reply to pika 23: Freddie did indeed date Kitty Bruce, Lenny Bruce's daughter. He did not marry her though. He married Katherine Cochran. My parents saw him perform in a show with Andy Williams in Las Vegas 1 week before he shot himself. I was so shocked and saddened because I just loved him. May both he and Michael Jackson rest in peace. Both of them died way before their time. .

Hey guys. Well, the suicide part is something thats not real. It has been revealed that loads of things were left behind in terms of investigation about the suicide and how it happened. It was supposedly by gunshot but the gunshot was in the opposite side from his dominant side. It is a mystery. Anyways, this guy was one of the most influential latinos in hollywood and tv and we will never know how far he could have gone, Much respect for him. May he rest in peace. G-d bless.

Good ole, m.j.45 years, in show business...if that isn't a role model for tenacity, doing everything he ever wanted to do, and be, with his surgeries, achieving much more success, as he approached AGE 50, god rest, his soul, what an inspiration to those who dream, acquire goals, along the way, we saw his tenacity, we saw his weaknesses, we laughed, we cried, we saw, he overcame the low points in his life, then struck us down, with better looks as he got older, and sold out more concerts...if he isn't a role model for success, I don't know, who was...what an inspiration...thank you, Michael, for being an inspiration, and showing us, what a super d duper performer, he truly really was...awesome...

Adrian Lemarchal his wife who was a hooker, knew he was a drug addict, but agreed to have his baby anyway. He hardly knew her. They both were dysfunctional and flawed when they married. She never tried to him help. Didn't even call his Mother to let her know her son was addicted to drugs and suicidal. She kicked him to the curb and filed for divorce. However now, she plays the grieving widow. Also, throughout his adult life, Freddie Jr has been estranged from his Mom. She's a piece of work. You should read Freddie Sr Mom's book, The Freddie Prinze Story.
