Here in Bulgaria, the women never retire, they do housework they raise the children they look after the area and then as they get older, they look after the children of the apartment block or the village, including their own grandchildren. They sweep the communal areas they plant the gardens et cetera, they live to 95 years old and are amazingly active. The men retire from formal jobs at 65, and then dead by, 68... I'm British, 53 year old man, watching the life here has made me determined that I will never retire in the western sense.

Watching crafts made by Japanese is so relaxing. There’s never movement made that isn’t part of the process, no wasted actions. Everything is done for a purpose and the object is handled gently and seemingly respectfully. To me it’s peaceful and relaxing.

At first I thought “to be fair, that’s not the most dangerous setup or use of a table saw I’ve ever seen, could be worse” - but then I got to the bit with the Debarking Wheel of Death / Hand Grater 5000. Oh my!

The bark removal/planing wheel at 2:12 is probably the most amazing and dangerous thing I've ever seen, but if she's made it this long... I was just imaging the nice sliced chunks of fingers and hands that thing could make in a split second. I loved the little linen pad hung over the saw to block the saw dust and kickback when cutting logs. LOL.

Yes, it's so beautiful. We all would like to buy one of those brilliantly made tea caddies. But, the fact that an old lady is capable to produce it, and that she possesses such a briliant artistic skill, that whole her life is THE ART , that's truly awesome! My deepest respect and may God bless you.

@yarbit
@yarbit 5 ай бұрын
