On this day in 1961 {August 7th} the Jarmels performed "A Little Bit of Soap" on the ABC-TV weekday-afternoon program, 'American Bandstand'... Six weeks later it would peak at #12 on Billboard's Hot Top 100 chart, and it spent ten non-consecutive weeks on the Top 100... "A Little Bit of Soap" was written by Bert Berns, who also penned such hits as "Here Comes the Night", "Piece of My Heart", "Hang on Sloopy", and "Twist and Shout"... Four covered versions of "A Little Bit of Soap' have made the Top 100 chart, Garnet Mimms {#95 in 1961}, The Exciters {#58 in 1966}, Paul Davis {#52 in 1970}, and Nigel Olsson {#34 in 1979}...

Paul Burnett was the lead singer on the original recording of "A Little Bit Of Soap". Paul died in 1961. I believe Tyrone Thomas is the singer who is doing a nice Paul Burnett imitation in the video. Ray Smith (bass singer) is the only remaining original member. Thank you,onepapa2 for uploading this great video. This incarnation of The Jarmels sounds great.

Paul died In the early 2000s. Ray Smith was originally a tenor, and then sang bass.

Lots of misinformation in this thread. Paul Burnett did NOT die in 1961. He was their original lead singer and performed with them as late as the 1980's/90's and sounding as good as in 1961. The lead voice in this video sounds AND looks like Burnett. If it isn't him, then he's a phenomenal impersonator.

Ray Smith, the bass singer is the only original and surviving member, he was born in 1941. Wow, his voice became much deeper in old age, sounds even better! I don’t know when this performance took place, I heard this may not be the original lead singer. That would surprise me, he sounds exactly the way I would image his voice would 40 years later in life. He even has the same mustache and resemblance to the singer standing in the middle of the picture taken of them in 1961. Does anyone know?
