Shooting the Streetpan 400 at ISO 200 was a bit of a revelation for me. It suddenly turned into a wonderful film for landscapes and high dynamic range scenes (lots of that around here in Norway). Really nice! And I just stand developed in Rodinal for an hour. Tempted to try Xtol next time to get get even finer grain.
@Tachikoma394 жыл бұрын
my personal recommendation is to develop it in ilford DD-X 1+4 for 10.30mins i got superb contrast and fine grain this way

Just bought my first roll of JCH StreetPan 400 today on the recommendation of Blue Moon Camera in Portland Oregon. Will be loading it up in my newly purchased Hasselblad 500C/M which is arriving in a couple of days! Really looking forward to getting back into film photography and exploring this particular film (and of course, my new Hasselblad!)

Great to see JCH again, I like the new format. Hate to say I want a fan of the few rolls of street pan I’ve shot but I dig the look at 200iso. Guess I’ll have to try it in my last few rolls in the fridge.

I bought a ton of Streetpan when it first came out and had it on ice for a while. Shot most of it during a trip to Hong Kong a few months back and have been waiting to develop it. I have shot Streetpan here and there before that, and I agree with most of what Ulysses and Bellamy said here. I would add that it is NOT an easy film to get good results with. It challenges my conception of what light is and how to capture light. That's a good challenge, but can leave me disappointed with the results if I'm not careful. Overall I like the film a lot. One more thing, an unpopular opinion: I get very similar results from Rollei Retro 400S, which can be harder to source than Streetpan, but when I do find it, it's almost always cheaper than Streetpan. So before Streetpan's release in 120, I became enamored with Retro 400S as my medium format Streetpan. Has anybody else noticed this similarity? Or am I alone in seeing these two as behaving in very similar ways?
@kollegekool4 жыл бұрын
You should look at Fotoimpex and Macodirect, the basically always have the Rollei Films in stock. I don't know where you are located but both shops ship worldwide

I can definitely see some similarities with how their blacks turn out. I can get my hands on it without difficulty in Australia and it is much cheaper.

I would love to get a hold of some in the future to shoot down here in Fukuoka. And based on this information looks like I would perhaps compromise at iso 320. Great video guys and with perfect timing to present to me.

Very impressed with the contrast, and it’s now always in my bag along with Tri-X, which echoes what you said Bellamy. Also, your 120 film holders are so useful to me, with one colour for unexposed and one for exposed. Thanks and keep the feed going!

Good to hear what is Bellamy's original intention on this emulsion. It may not be everyone's taste but it is kinda unique. Indeed very interesting review, please keep making this. I will try to shoot my next box at 320. I currently dev it with d76 1+1 , remarkable results

Just discovered your film today. Ordered some 35 & 120 from B&H. Thought the higher contrast might work very well for some fine art architectural photography. Think I’ll try 320 speed and see if I can strike a balance between the two speeds you experimented with here.

Really liking the content. I look forward to more themed long form discussions like this about a singular aspect. For jchstreetpan, I've have always been reluctant to try it because the high contrast contemporary look wasn't what I was looking for. I am going to give it a try at 200 and see how I like it. How were these rolls developed? Rodinal was recommended, but was it for these shots? I'm looking forward to the next report.
@FramesPerSecond4 жыл бұрын
Yeah I’d recommend over exposing it a stop since it doesn’t have much shadow detail.
@japancamerahunter4 жыл бұрын
This was develoed with TMax developer at recommended dilution. Thanks.
@lensman57624 жыл бұрын
This appears to be an ISO 250 film. It also appears that it needs a compensating developer to retain the highlights while giving good shadow detail. its worth having it developed in something like Atomal 49 . The desired contrast range can then be achieved in post process or at the printing stage using variable contrast paper.

Bellamy should do a series on "How To Make A Camera". I know he had plans to make one, but as someone who's getting into fabrication and CNC machine, I would love to know what would be needed to actually pull something like that off

hello : when are you going to get some more street pan ? been seeing it for a few years now & after watching this video I want to try it.
@noc8384 жыл бұрын
Why choose and not just shoot at both 200 and 400 on the same roll (if needed) and just stand develop the film? Its one stop, it should develop just fine and you'd get to choose the look depending on the scene since, as we've seen here, that one stop can make such a difference.

Can you please also make an review of the CV 35 1.7 asph. Very much appreciated :) 🔥🔥 great videos btw
@brandoboe10 ай бұрын
I just don't think it's a 400 speed film. It needs a stop or two extra of light, unfortunately. I spent a lot of time and about 10 rolls of street pan trying to shoot it at 800 and develop with D76, but was never happy with the results. Back to HP5.

Happy to see the channel growing with each month. Don't want to sound critical, but little advice shouldn't hurt - Ulysses, you talk a lot. This is after viewing some of the videos on your channel, it does not really apply to this video, since it's a conversation between two guys just exchanging their views on the fly. Try to focus on scripting your reviews so you keep the general flow of the presentation going. That way you'll reduce the number of cuts between takes and keep the viewer more engaged in the narrative. Hope it helps with future work, keep it up!

Peter H. I actually really liked Ulysses's verbosity. It's not often that I get to hear someone knowledgeable and sensitive about film stocks just open up, and I thought Bellamy did a great job giving Ulysses a wide berth to wax on in detail. I found his observations very compelling, and can't wait for more film stock reviews. Just my two cents :)
@UlyssesAokiPhoto4 жыл бұрын
Peter, thanks for watching... a few things. One is that this is our first vid together and we were feeling each other out, figuring out what we wanted to do collectively. Second is that, me talking was not simply my call. In the end, if I was talking too much, it could've simply been edited out :) But I agree that some things could've been sorted out more, and I do tend to ramble... so thank you. 👍
@MrChomiq4 жыл бұрын
@@UlyssesAokiPhoto I completely understand, that's why I mentioned that it isn't really related to this video in particular. Just for future videos that might not necessarily involve you and Bellamy having a discussion but instead a pure "review".
