What I gathered from old canon was that Jedi and Sith both usually denied themselves "wordly" pleasures for functional and moral grounds respectively. That is, Jedi think that intoxicants impair ones connection with the force and we already know about their views on attachments, that borders almost a moral sociopathy at times. They didn't consider it "wrong" so much as just an unnessercary hurdle on their path to study the force. While you'd think that the Sith would be all for this, many sith lords actually took seemingly out of character "moral" stance with it and embraced asceticism and spartan lifestyles. While they were all about fullfilling their desires, they made big disctinction between "base desires" such as these and "higher desires" which was attaining and holding to power. Bane's order especially was all about that, since he had seen how brotherhood of darkness had squandered their wealth that way and he was disgusted by it.
