The fact that you're willing to take the time to seek out experts in a lift, meet them, learn and apply their techniques is why you're my favorite strongman these days. It's what I did when I competed and I find it insane that so many top strongman are just winging it and trying to brute force most events. Keep being a great example mitch!
@MrCombs23413 күн бұрын
It brings so much more knowledge to the community too. So fun to watch.
@bigted7912 күн бұрын
Agreed, when you see Mitch split jerking the axle press and the others almost strict pressing it, I often wonder why they don’t adopt the same approach. There’s world records and more points to be had in competitions.
@adamjohnson528511 күн бұрын
@@bigted79 I think part of it is them not wanting to take the time to learn the technique. I also think there's another issue for some. How much of it should be about raw strength vs how much should it be about technique? Some may see the split technique as not in the spirit of the lift as a strongman.
@gregorwhyte36992 күн бұрын
@@adamjohnson5285 I find that logic stupid. I know people don't like the split jerk in strongman but strongman is literally about moving weight from a to b as quickly and efficiently as possible. Be it moving, throwing etc. Why wouldn't they use split jerk missing out on points.

11:58 is a good example of when receiving in the catch you instinctively lean back. If you watch throughout the video you're doing it on all jerks. This is probably because of how overhead press is normally done in strongman, pushing the chest and head through will come with more practice and comfort in the movement.

Yeah, it seems he is going to the press mode (understandably because it's such a high weight), but there's no need to press anything. Once he feels safe with the weight, he'll probably just focus on extending the arms and letting the locked upper body hold the bar. Why am I writing this? The difference I see in technique between Mitch and Olympic weightlifters is O lifters catch the weight above where a back squat would be with their head through the bar and Mitch is trying to lean back like he’s doing a push press. Mitch if you read this, maybe consider practicing bailing at a lighter weight so you can get comfortable catching with your head pushed through and not be worried about the bar coming down and hurting you
@xahftw13 күн бұрын

It’s weird seeing Mitch not being the best at something. It’s also interesting to see someone with better technique side by side. Joe Kovacs’ technique is so amazing. I’d really love to see Joe in a powerlifting match. It’s also unfortunate that he’s throwing at the same time as Ryan Crouser. Joe is likely the second best ever. Ryan has such a physical advantage with his enormous levers. He’s 6’7”.

Squeezing the knees and heels together for leverage, instead of spreading the floor like a squat, Kovacs is a wizard with leverage. Thor just hit 200kg like butter with no split. You're gonna have to fight for this one. Trey Mitchel hit it for a triple, no split.

I feel like when you're about to jerk it, the whip of the bar is also a factor. I think that as you go down the whip fights you in that moment. From seeing olympic lifters it might seem they wait just a moment so the whip of the bar doesn't act as counter-momentum.
@rrrGeist13 күн бұрын
According to Klokov whip helps you from 200 kg onward. With my poverty overhead lifts up to 130 there is no difference between weightlifting bar and powerlifting bar. Womans bar would be much different as the diameter is just 25 cm so I would imagine whip playing a role with much lighter weight than man's bar.
