That's for sure ! A little of Lewis' outdated schtick goes a long way.

For those wondering how Jerry ended up hosting a talk show ----Alan Thicke created his own late night talk show to compete against NBC's highly rated The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson. The series, entitled Thicke of the Night, was syndicated and only ran for one season before being crushed by Carson and cancelled in June 1984. Needing a replacement program, series distributor Metromedia gave Lewis an on-air tryout in Thicke's former slot. During the week of June 11, 1984, Lewis hosted The Jerry Lewis Show, with Charlie Callas as Lewis' announcer/sidekick. Metromedia decided not to go forward with the project after a one-week trial run.

Well better to be a king for a night than to be a schnook for a lifetime - The King of Comedy (1982) Jerry Lewis starred ss a late night talk show host.

Surprised this show lasted as long as it did…Jerry Lewis was a legend. But this format was not his forte. Even the greats strike out on occasion.

An exception, though, must be made for fiction: The movie "The King Of Comedy" where he plays a chat show host to perfection. Oscar worthy.

My god how can someone watch this and think it’s funny ? This is very clearly people trying to do comedy that worked in the 50s in the 80s , but 30 years older.

Different people have different senses of humor. I know many younger people that enjoy Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis at any stage of their careers. I'm 32.

So true. Jerry is doing the same old schtick that he started out with in the 50s. That's why his film comedies in the late 60s were flops. He couldn't or wouldn't update his style. He came on too strong & was too bombastic. A little of him went a long way.
