UPDATE I'm being told that other people's Särmä has reflective material in it. Mine either did not, or it was not noticeable at all.

A few small points possibly of interest. Jerven from Norway (pronounced Yer-ven,- outside of English the other Germanic languages pronounce j-sounds without a preceding d-sound) means Wolverine in the three Scandinavian languages,- Jerv in Norwegian, Jærv in Danish, Järv in Swedish. Fjell, fjæld, fjäll means a low mountain ridge ,- the mountains of Norway and Sweden are not extremely high - just abundant. :) Duk, dug means a sheet like the ones you put on tables when dining in style,- so it´s the wolverine mountain sheet. Särmä means edge in Finnish,- so the company want to portray in its name a sense of cutting edge technology. These products of course are used by the respective countries´ millitary personel,- in particular the ones operating at altitude and in harsh cold climate conditions. Think Norwegian and Finnish cold, snow and ice and also by the people in the humid damp cold rainsoaked terrains of southern scandinavia. They are not cheap,- not even for people living in the Scandinavian countries,- but hopefully they´re worth the investment. So basically your combination here is signalling cutting edge technology for the outdoorsy man with teeth ( mountain man, hunter, woodsman, soldier) like a mountain wolverine.

I have a Jerven Fjellduken Kingsize with the 60gsm Primaloft. Sleep in below-freezing temps - I thought I'd be cold, so I had a Helikon-Tek Swagman as a blanket. Once I warmed up the bag, kicked off the Swagman and was toasty the whole night. Kingsize fits me and two labradors, though a bit of a squeeze. Probably fit two humans top and tail in a pinch.

I have the Hellsport Fjellduken Extreme, with zip-in Primaloft liner and it zips into a bivi, has a zip-on hood, zip-on arms, reflective inside. It comes with a stuffbag, signaling panel, and a belt. Fjellduken means mountain blanket in Norwegian. And I slept in it in -7°C in a shirt and jeans, which was doable. Due to the liner it does become a bit bulky though. Got put onto the Fjellduken by an USMC sniper that crossed my path (...on my honeymoon). Didn't get the chance to thank Him for that.

The reason you can’t use this one (jerven fjellduken original) as a bivy is because you bought the smallest size. The Norwegian army use the dovrefjell fjellduk (exactly the same product just a different Norwegian company) and they work great. This one is 143x143cm, the bigger one is 143x222cm which is the one people are talking about when they say it can be used as a bivy. Love the channel, keep ‘em comming

@@GruntProof I have a question. What is your opinion on mesh baselayers? They are quite popular here in Norway especially among ex army(most people have been in the army due to conscription) the Norwegian army uses mesh and then something called Ullfrote. I’d love to hear your opinion on the winter clothes of our infantry. Il link a video from the Norwegian army for reference. Yes sir. I’ve been rocking the Hunter for over a decade in many different conditions. It’s bad ass and still going strong with no wear! At below zero I had some condensation but still kept warm with primaloft doing it s magic. It’s the Swiss Army knife of bivys imho

Hi, Excellent video again. Jerven used here now also, the longer hunter insulate version, they're great. If bad cold a jungle sleep bag in works good and still keeps light. Makes a good little tunnel tent with two bungies also, string out top triangle with a mat inside and zip below so no drips. Mine been from Alpine to Arctic ... they work. :-) ATB.

Added poppers along the edges of mine and on my Swagman roll, both now marry together as a ranger type roll, or for use as a hammock under blanket.

A guy can also use the sleeves as light duty gaiters to keep your pant legs dry in tall wet grass every now and then. I have the extreme for winter up here in Alberta because it gets retardedly cold here and the original stays in my ruck during the other 3 seasons. Definitely good gear.

Hi GP. Nice one! I have just reviewed the Fjellduken original on my channel, and I also have the helsport fjellduken extreme too. Great product, I recently had to Bail from a collapsing tent, so it was a valuable back up then too. I even have one for the dog, the Jerven lair!

i had the XL kingsize hunter jerven bag (primaloft version) for several years, i used it as a bivi bag, sleeping bag, tarp, quick deploy shelter, ... never once used it as a poncho/cloak. Only flaw i found and reason i eventually sold it was because rain water would come in the zips,

Reckon youd be interested in the Bushmen Hideout Thermo Warm - its basically the blanket but a step up. Really not a fan of the mozzie net though, it does bugger all. The none 'Warm' version ive not used . Also, I have the thermo tarp, again its okay - the lining sown into the outside though prevents any kind of stretching, so water pools heavily if you have any slack at all

About the särmä thermal cloak, it does have the reflective material inside. Might be that the heavier loft keeps the warming effect from being that noticeable. Mine is the 60g version and it takes bit longer to heat up than the un-insulated version. Also the materials are NIR-compliant, which is neat.

@@GruntProof I think it has always been there, at least for the lighter models. Maybe yours was a mishap in manufacture or something like that. You could always ask Varusteleka about it, who knows they might even send a new one.

I waited these video ! :) For the size the Särmä one is greater in size that the model/brand shown here (all Särmä TST Thermal Cloak) it is a square of 2.16 meters by 2.16 meters when opened (85" x 85"), I have the winter insulated one. Some considerations for the Särmä (probably same for others cloak things) it is not waterproof but very water resistant, with zippers and corners, there are 'gaps' at corners, and not waterprooof zippers (you see light through them)) => (very)water resistant waterproof => certainly a super blanket, a super poncho (must used to use it ;)) and a far better option for a urgency shelter comparing lil things you often see in Amazon or other places (= also usefull but not at all at same level, of course bulkier and more heavy ...) => personal consideration: - I prefer the camo of Särmä ones (woodland/winter) than the Fjellduken ones ;) no opionions for others models form other brands - You speak about price and you said Fjellduken is under Särmä .. interesting, what I've seen before buying mine some months ago was not really this (but the Särmä is not at all cheap that's for sure)
