To a question regarding chest pain, I wanted to recommend checking out priest Sergei Baranov from Russian Church. He is the experienced one of these days. He used to serve a liturgy with elder Ephraim of Arizona. I think he mentions just to simply ignore any physical feeling such as this or like dryness of a tongue or any other thing and just ignore them and keep your attention on prayer. Just keep pushing and keep saying prayer focusing on words of a prayer and keeping mind clear of any imagination. Majority of his lectures are in Russian but there could be some English and his monastery is working on translating more content. Hope it helps.

Father, Bless!!! The most difficult part of this so far for me is in the preparatory “Necessary Spiritual Conditions” from St Paisios that you presented in Part 1. It seems I can bring to mind at a very high level “all” of my sins in far less than 5 minutes, but at 66 years old to do it in detail might take 5 years or more!!! Struggling to find the right balance; God will provide. Certainly aware that i am the chief of all sinners. Thank you , Fr Peter for these greatly helpful lectures!!!

I just want to mention something with regard to saying by St Gabriel of Georgia asked by Olga at 1:58:07. I am Georgian myself and have read almost all the books in Georgian about St Gabriel. He did not say that only those will be saved who have noetic prayer in their hearts. He said, in the end times those will be saved who have faith (not prayer) in their hearts. He was stressing on having faith in one's heart as opposed to having faith in rational mind only. What fr Peter says he thinks saint said is exactly what St Gabriel said. There are many proofs of this from his conversations with multiple orthodox people.

What is the difference between priest and spiritual father? Can my priest be my spiritual father ?
@OrthodoxEthos10 ай бұрын
The spiritual father is ideally a priest who can both perform the mystery of Confession and provide spiritual guidance. The saints and Fathers say that we should be very careful in choosing a spiritual father because we are entrusting our soul to their care and we need to be able to trust that they can lead us to salvation. The spiritual father should be someone who follows the teachings of the saints and Fathers and has spiritual experience. This could be a person’s parish priest or it could be a priest or hieromonk outside of one’s parish.

Love the person. You don't have to agree with their choices.
@LadyMaria11 ай бұрын
As peterjackbenson said, love them. How? Pray for them to God through the intercessions of the Theotokos and Saints to turn away from these passions, help them as you would anyone, let them know you are there for them, be compassionate as we all have our passions. Don't be condemning of course or bombard with pressure to drop these passions as that will not help. You don't have to accept the actions of people in order to love them. Charity is what they need, and maybe a seed of repentance will be planted and nurtured; may that be for us all. You're probably doing these things already probably. If so, keep on. May God bless you.

Are you saying, if you dont have spiritual father do not do Jesus prayer?
@OrthodoxEthos11 ай бұрын
We can start praying the Jesus Prayer but in order to make progress and avoid spiritual deception and delusion, personal guidance from an experienced Orthodox spiritual father is indispensable.
