Easier to replace a kicker. I'm a Redskins fan, and we had a dude at kicker who missed in the PS and then kept missing in week one. We then cut him and got Seibert in who has missed once, hit about 20 kicks in a row and has won us two games where the offense was having trouble scoring touchdowns against the Giants and Bears. We're 6-2 now, we would be 4-4 is we hadn't done that. It's an important job.

Sure, but apparently you did with Sam Darnold and fucked it up. It's not just the pick. It's development, getting a good scheme installed to protect the QB etc. I always try to picture good QBs if they had been drafted elsewhere: Mahomes with the Giants. Josh Allen with the Jets etc. Would it look the same? And the answer is usually 'not even slightly'. You just know the Jets wouldn't have had the patience for Allen's early interception problems and that the Giants would probably have gone out of their way to make Mahomes as bad of a QB as humanly possible and then scapegoated him. Some teams are just a bed of nails for rookie QBs, and the Jets are just one of those teams.

To quote a favorite of Jets fans everywhere, Bill Bellichick: "only about eight teams in the NFL have the right settings to compete'. And it's been that way all along. In the 70s it was the Steelers and Cowboys primarily, later the Redskins, Broncos and Giants, then the Cowboys again, and finally the Patriots, Packers, Ravens, Chiefs and a handful of others in the last two decades. It just has never been the Jets since the 60s. And what that means is almost specifically to not have a meddling, billionaire doofus making ANY of the decisions. You need an autonomous GM who knows how to construct a roster working in close cooperation with an autonomous HC and then those two need to assemble a good staff. Then you get a QB that suits whatever that setup looks like, or even better: hire the staff after getting the QB so you can find people who fit to do the coaching. That's what the Commies just did in Washington. Without that Daniels would not have been able to start his NFL career the way he has. Whoever you hire will just be a puppet as long as the Johnson gangster family is in charge. That's just the end of it. And it's so toxic now and Woody so oblivious that there's no way back for him. He has to just double down on every bad decision and scapegoat the people working for him some more. That's the meddling, billionaire way, yo! Rex Ryan was the last chance to me for the Jets with that ownership. And that ended just as badly as everything else has ended in recent decades. Any team in the NFL is one inept, meddling, billionaire owner away from being a laughing stock.

Not at all. You just need the defensive minded head coach to have the confidence and humility to hand his offense over the someone good. Just look at Dan Quinn and Kliff Kingsbury in DC. The only way out of this mess is to tear it down yet again, but this time rebuild the offensive line and defensive line first. Once you have an O - line that can protect a QB and can open holes for a running game, plus a defensive line that can control the line os scrimmage and get a consistent pass rush, then go get a young QB they can protect and grow with. Right now this O -line can’t even execute basic blocking schemes. I would rather watch a young team lose that has a chance of improving and winning one day, than a team with a bunch of over priced aging retreads playing out the string and just cashing paychecks.
