As you’ll hear in the first few minutes, this was a particularly difficult interview to record, and one that already came at a particularly difficult time in life for me. Maybe it shouldn’t be so surprising, but this is without a doubt the most personally meaningful interview I’ve done. The fact that Victor and I will not be voting for the same candidate makes me like it even more. Yet despite this difference of opinion, I wholeheartedly respect Victor’s views and am incredibly grateful that he takes the time to share them with me. This interview wouldn’t have happened without my friends Jack Waldman and Jared Warren (one of the world’s best philosophers, who happens to also be at Stanford), who drove me overnight from Los Angeles to San Francisco so that I could meet Victor in time for our appointment. Victor Hanson is so brilliant and kind. I was a staunch Democrat until 2016. I happened to hear a talk he was giving-I enjoyed it so much that I started seeking out every talk and interview of his. He helped me transition to conservative and woke my dormant Catholic upbringing. I can’t even imagine the number of lives he has touched. An amazing man. :) I forgot to say Thank you-though I doubt he reads comments, I hope he knows how loved he is.

I missed hearing the fact that most of the world believes we are arming a genocide. Are they wrong? Well, you'd need to acknowledge that the view exists, and to present the basis for it, before demonstrating that it is wrong. But all of those facts were skirted. If you really listen to him, he is dishonest. He knows Trump is corrupt and authoritarian -- anti-democratic. But he doesn't care because he thinks Trump is on his side in the culture wars. Hansen believes in a conservative, hierarchical society, where women and minorities know their place. He is a Christian nationalist of sorts. And so he is willing to turn a blind eye to corruption and malice when it serves his cause. He doesn't realize that when Trump takes down the immigrants, gays and leftists he so despises, then Trump will take him and all of us down with them. He doesn't recognize the threat Trump poses to civiliazation, because he is so consumed by his own grievances about a culture he cannot control.

David Hanson said that “annual entries of illegal immigrants is 2.3 million". The fact is it was 2.4 million encounters at the border in 2022 and it was ~2.1 million in 2023. Encounters, not entries, not even the same human beings. All of them were detained and most of them were returned. He manipulated the wording. Overall, Trump did less deportations than Obama did in one cadence, and had more people (~2.95 m) naturalized than Obama or even Bush. The number of encounters in September 2024 is the same as in November 2020. Please do your own research.

I think that those who say that the United States population is as deeply politically divided now as at any time since the period just prior to the Civil War are right. Nevertheless, if there is hope, it is that the calm, quiet voice of Victor Davis Hanson can bridge the gap and heal the ideological wounds of the nation following the profoundly consequential elections that will occur in a few short days, irrespective of the outcome. I pray that this will be the case. What America has achieved over the past two and a half centuries is too precious to be deconstructed by mob forces from within. 🐻🙏🇺🇲

As a senior conservative Canadian, I have chills running down my spine, after listening to Victor Davis Hansen’s comments. Robinson just can’t take it in - he can’t - he is unable to do so. Equal to, or worse, than the circumstances leading up to the Civil War, the divide between left and the right, today, is just too immense. Your federal election that will occur in less than a week, regardless of who wins, will not decrease the extent of the divide. Yes, your divide is now well established, here, in Canada. But, the Lord God remains sovereign, whether you are a believer, or not.
