@@bruno_schumann to be fair I don’t mind shred if it’s musical and has a point or is part of a song. But so much about guitar annoys me: tone woods, vintage this and that. I just want a good song with some great guitar in it.
@bruno_schumann2 жыл бұрын
@@liamh9814 I understand but quite honestly most of this shredding seems to be synonymous of 'look how fast I can play', as it were a competition, and musicality is relegated to a secondary role. I don't care how virtuoso a guitarist is and how many notes he or she can play per minute. Maybe, I've been unlucky because I cannot recall a single time where shredding takes place in an actual musical context. That being said, I also understand your annoyance with tone woods. I make a lot of jokes about that. And when it comes to the unhealthy obsession with vintage and shockingly expensive gear, I just let the bougie lavish their money in whatever way they want.

@@bruno_schumann agreed. I remember hearing a Polyphia song for the first time. I thought to myself it was different and interesting. Since then every song has been the same mix of swept arpeggios, harmonics and whatever. There’s no storytelling in the songs and no heart. Anyways each to their own.

Flatwound strings give fewer clashing overtones. Electric 12 strings have to be strung with them if one expects them to sound good. Until electric blues (with the heavy use of string bending) became the thing in the mainstream in the mid-60s everyone used flats.

I love Madison's music and the artificial blonde looks really cool! a chorus pedal in the vein of the bonsai, pack rat, and muffaletta would be cool too. It would be a bit of a departure from a bunch of versions of a specific pedal, but would still be really useful to have a bunch of flavors in one pedal. Maybe a CE-1, Arion, small stone, Tri-chorus, Dimension-C, MXR Chorus, Roland jazz chorus, VB-2, jhs, and maybe a collab. Might not be possible, but it would be cool.
@R3volutionEarth2 жыл бұрын
Check out the Red Witch - Empress Chorus pedal. It doesn't have selectable pedal recreations like JHS does, but theres a knob that will give totally different chorus tones, allowing you to dial in sounds similar to various chorus pedals.
@markhammer6432 жыл бұрын
Not to take a single thing away from the pedal, but I'll note that there are two versions of "stereo". The Magnatone amplifiers provide a lovely similarly-subtle stereo vibrato. BUT, they use *one* LFO that countersweeps the two channels, with the two sides being reciprocals of each other; i.e., one side goes a teensy bit sharp and the other side a teensy bit flat. Last year I made myself a dual vibrato, with independent LFOs - one per side. It is SOOO lush in stereo, you just want to move in and live there. The key aspect is that the modulation is close but NOT synced. Sometimes the two outputs line up, sometimes they're opposite, and sometimes one is a little ahead of the other or behind. Dual ganged pots turn the modulation rate up and down for both sides at once, as does a dual-ganged pot for modulation depth. It is the *perceived aperiodicity* of the modulation that makes it feel so rich and lush. It creates the sense that there is a lot going on; moreso than simple countersweep. Try it out. You'll like it. And when you exclaim "Where has this been all my life?!", you can send me one.

I've had an always on vibrato on my board for years now too - I think I started after watching a Steven Wilson rig rundown, where he talked about minor modulation in cleans for small amounts of movement. I started experimenting, and found subtle vibrato filled what I'd been missing, and even loved it on dirt tones! I've been using the vibrato circuit of a univibe though. This is really cool, and I could definitely see it replacing the univibe!
