I love the parallel mode on the JB-2. It got me thinking and I set up a split signal on chain with a volume pedal on one side that allows you to mix an effect into your basic sound. Using it with an overdrive gives you a real time variable distortion for emphasising certain sections.
@hairychris4442 жыл бұрын
Gigrig have something that does this called the Wetter Box. You can use an expression pedal to control the mix. I have one, it's a cool utility. Not the cheapest solution but built like a tank!

Ooh i have everything needed to try this out, im gunna have to see how i like it for my rig. The sound on “1000 punches” and “Orion’s Belt Buckle” was just fabulously unbelievable. Had to immediately rewind and listen to these again. I have a feeling in the pit of my stomach it won’t be long before the JB-2 will be a permanent resident next to the Charlie Brown, Double Barrel, and AT+ (not to mention all the others) that are already here… I really thought I was covered on that end. Apparently there is no such thing as “enough overdrives and distortion pedals” when you watch the JHS show. On the other hand, you just *know* the moment I order it there will be a waza JB-2W announced…

I'm gonna be 100% honest. I have put a WICKED little guitar studio together this past 2 years. I am on limited funds, a player of 30+ years (with a lil' YT channel if you wanna stick ya head in!). Without you, Josh, and your review, I would NEVER have bought the Behringer clone of the Tubescreamer. It really WAS as good as you said. I then released my fears and starting buying inexpensive pedals - you personally brought colour into this space. In a spirit of gratitude, I decided I would buy one of your pedals sometime, I thought, something worth the boutique choice that I cant afford to often give myself (it has to be said, I DO have a few pricey pedals, mostly coz Ive had them for ages and they massively increased in value. But, I bought a new Boss pedal last year so I'm not totally at the 'economic' end). So I have looked through everything. On my shopping list, the 'Bender' - I think YOUR version of my all-time fave is the one worth plumping for. And you DO have heavy competition! But I have seen the journey of how you arrived at producing that pedal; I have faith in you passion. So that is on the list. A genuine Blues Driver BD-2 is on the list. I like Boss drives, and my stage distortion is Boss. I have a few, and intend to make a good tone-palette of Boss drives. Instead of buying the BD-2 I'm gonna go that bit extra and buy this, Crazy Charlie. I have seen them, but now I know more about them, I'm kinda hooked. So, look forwards to introducing your work, Josh, to my rig, which is a precious zone of sonics in my life. Look forwards to it, man! All the very best for '22 from the UK

The only downside is that I love the colour scheme of the BD-2.

no lie this is my favorite distortion pedal. i got to play a buddy's JCM800 years ago and could not get the sound out of my head. and when i tested this out, i'd finally found it again. so thank you, i can get that sound without shelling out for a JCM800. probably not unusual but i use it for atmospheric black metal. the harmonics from the JCM distortion are perfect for tremolo picking, and blending it parallel with the blues driver side did WAY more for it than i expected it to.

I like my Angry Driver in parallel mode! After being exposed to parallel mode I took it one step further! Sit down for this one Josh! I took a Boss LS-2 line selector that has parallel mode and ran the Angry Driver in parallel mode in parallel with a JHS Fuzz! You heard correctly, that ends up summing all three dirty circuits at once in parallel (Overdrive, Distortion and Fuzz)! Wait is that still parallel or is it more like “Triparallelum?” Nothing sounds the same! If only someone (JHS) could throw all three pedals in one for a trifecta or trinity of drives.

I love the BD-2 because it does actually get into fuzzier territory. Too many "Blues" tones I hear on YT are these ultra smooth almost stereotypically t00b tones, like SRV run through a fourier transform. IMO Real "Blues" tends to have a lot more character(like an overdriven Tweed more than an Blackface with a tubescreamer), so I'm glad Boss has saved a lot of guys from having boring toanz through the years.
@mr.d.572 Жыл бұрын
Technically you're right. Traditional blues has always had a more stinging, biting tone. I actually prefer playing with a smoother tone these days, just because I'm tired of fuzz and distortion. I have a few overdrive pedals but I keep them on low gain for the most part.

Love the Mamiya shirt, Josh! My first camera was an old 70s Mamiya 35mm.... which is still limping along to some of my shoots when I can find the odd film roll.

I dig the parallel mode! It's an easy way to get a bit of the flavor of running two amps without the ridiculous hassle of running two amps. Incidentally, One of my favorite sounds is using my Bass BMP set to low-ish gain on the clean blend setting (functionally, a parallel setting) into an AC15 that's just starting to break up. The way the clean & fuzz meld together while maintaining some distinction is pretty wonderful.

i only ever had 2 distortion pedal. The first one that i bought years ago was the infamous DS-1. When i wanted something different i bought the JB-2. The possibilities are enormous. One of the setting i use the most to play heavier riffs (eg. Tool) is to use the B->J mode with the Boss level higher than the Jhs level but with the jhs drive a bit higher than the boss' but both drive arround 12 o clock. To get a similar tone with a different character i use the J->B and use the same logic of the first level "pushing" into the second one. Amazing product

One of the very best and a favourite of mine in my (large) Boss collection. Amazing tones and flexibility, Josh. Great work.

Josh you're damn right that the SD2 Dual OD is underrated, i hoping they release a reissue of it.
