I watched Scholes later on in his career from 2007 until his retirement. His volley against Aston Villa in 2007 made me fall in love with United. He was special, always so confident on the ball. I don't remember him losing the ball, or giving a bad pass. He was exceptional player. One of the greatest and most decorated midfielders ever. His greatness wasn't in goals & assists, he controlled tempo, dictated the game for his team, bossed midfield, etc... Amazing player.

@andyniblett89862 жыл бұрын
Just had to comment on this clip . As a neutral I saw Scholes, Gerrard and lampard a few times - all great players , but all different . No one ever brings up the golden generation and how they were coached for England. The Spanish had javi , iniesta and busquets, and they were the backbone of that great Spanish side . How in heavens name could we have Scholes, Gerrard and lampard , and the so called super coaches ,namely Ericsson and capello , who didn't build a team around them . Playing Paul Scholes wide left in a 4 man midfield , was criminal . The Spanish feared and admired Paul Scholes greatly . Sadly we never saw the best of the 3 of them together for England , we should have won a major trophy I blame the coaches at the time ...bloody sad . I happened to see Scholes in his prime , and when he came back after his retirement . He run the game like a " quarterback " , all the time in the world Gerrard was like a " one man team " , at the time , a bloody thoroughbred racehorse . Lampard always turned up at the right time to score - all great players

Paul Scholes won 2 ChampionsLeague's 9 years apart and contributed a lot in both but he deserved to play in a CL final in his prime, so many quality campaigns some unlucky exits but 2004 sticks out the most. His 2nd goal of the night ruled out for offside when he was played onside by 4 Porto players. That year would've been his CL final goal (along with v.Nistelrooy of course). Porto had a EuropaLeague pathway to the CL trophy that year from QF. Obviously that's not the only reason why I think Scholes would've scored in the final as he could score and did score against anyone, I'm just saying ManUtd were definitely robbed that year and he got his yellow vs Juventus 98/99 because that was a tough SF like it was for both teams but with an easier route he would have way less chance getting suspended in 03/04. The 2 CL's Ferguson won ManUtd couldn't have randomly been given much harder opponent list and still scored loads in both & won both in invincible style. While ManUtd were strong in the Ferguson era they deserved to get at least 1 easier CL title win like others have, a few clubs have had multiple lucky/unconvincing CL wins looking at the whole campaign's & who they played & stats etc...
