This is probably the best review of the bass that exists. The fact that you play different styles and different settings on the bass AND explain why, is something missing from so many other bass reviews. You're probably a good teacher.

Probably one of the best reviews I've seen on YT. You did a great job and pointed out the right issues. I love the aesthetics of this bass, but I'm not a "signature" instrument type. I rather have one made to my specs. Excellent video.

I have this bass. I found if both pickups are turned all the way up, total output is lower. Turn one pickup all the way up and the other to about 90%, output is noticeably higher. Doesn’t matter which one is up/down.

Great job on the review - I know these videos take a long time to make. Appreciate you putting in the effort! From my experience, MM has great customer support; curious to hear what they say.

Great call on duel volumes. When I upgraded my Yamaha TRBX605, I made sure to select the Bartolini preamp with the two volumes. Mixing both pickups with full control is key.

The lack of volume could be the lack of a compressor or a pre-amp, but specially a comp imo, I remember X Japan bassist Taiji Sawada (Japanese Heavy Metal band) used a Killer Dagger bass with both JJ and PJ config and most people who own the bass say the exact same that it is just not loud enough, so a comp and a pre-amp combo fixes that issue

4:15 I'm also pretty sure he plays rounds in that clip, as opposed to flats in the previous bit where he was on stage. Just by the sound of it.

I few notes from an EBMM nerd. The original Joe Dart used a Sterling body. That refers to the independent model called the "Sterling". That is not an import Stingray from the brand Sterling. It is from an American made Sterling model from Music man. Second is EBMM did make a bass called the Caprice in 2016 and 2017 (along with the Cutlass bass). That had a P/J pickup setup. I believe those J pups are from that model, not something new.

Beautiful and very well done review! The issues with the output volume is really a big shame, hope someone at MusicMan is working to fix it!! Unfortunately these basses are too expansive for me, and in fact I'm not a professional musician (so to mean that I probably don't need such a piece of gear), but I can assure you that my Squier CV 60 has an unusual, clear and high output volume (if compared with other instruments of the same price). 🤣 Very good video, keep up the good work!

Awesome review mate!! I just was waiting for someone to do it, as it was not much info of the JD2, anywhere. And you’ve nailed it: very complete, very clear, really nice presented. Thanks a lot! 🎉👍

Couldn't you just increase the gain on the amp or use a pedal to boost the signal to address the pickup volume issue? or simply swap out the pickups?
@martinheath59472 жыл бұрын
Sounds great, I'd plug it into a nice compressor which has extra gain available

Instant modern classic. Also, I rather have somewhat low-output pickups than high-output ones. I've owned a couple of basses that were almost unuseable because the output from the pickups were clipping any pedals (and some amps) I ran the basses into. Yes, you can lower the volume with the volume knob, but you never get a consistent sound if you have to be super careful with how the volume knob is set. I pluck quite hard, so maybe this isn't an issue for other people.
@Luthiart Жыл бұрын
You need to get an amp that has a volume knob. That will make the bass louderrr.

Who ever heard of a Music Man with low output? It's like they were winning the footrace and then tripped before the finish line. I like what they are doing here but this bass is incredibly expensive for what it is. Passive, no tone control, doesn't even come with paint. It has pretty woods, but it costs the same as a DarkRay! If the Joe Darts had a price commensurate with their bare-bones features then this would be far more appealing. As it stands, they are only good for the most die-hard Vulfpeck fan boys.

I don’t know that it’s a good idea to refer to this as a Jazz bass. I understand the body shape and pickup configuration but tonally it’s in some no man’s land, definitely it own unique thing and I also disagree as to how usable or gimmicky the Joe dart lineup is, I think I’m with Jack on this. You’re quite a good player, and you clearly worked hard on this video.

now he just abandoned his essence. too much knobs. too complicated and expensive.

Very nice and well done review! Just one thing to mention here: If a bass does have low output, just dial in more gain of your preamp. Right? I don't get your point here.

Nice review, but i think it would be better to turn down the amount of reverb you send your voice through, sounds weird and doesn't make justice to the quality of the content
