Justin have you ever considered doing a video about trying to sound like John Mayer on a budget? Anderton’s used to do a similar series that got tons of views. You could even make it a series where you try to make a budget rig for different eras or even individual songs/tones John has done over the years. Might be a cool series that would hopefully get your channel the visibility it deserves. Love the content and keep it coming!

It's an RMC 2 there are photos from the side where you can clearly see the three knobs for volume, Q, and tone setting.

@Justin Jeske, the TRY Strat was indeed a JM Signature Strat with the TRY logo on it, that was used the week of Thanksgiving 2005 (I think on Letterman/Bowery and a few other gigs), and then given away as part of a promotion to a fan.

That's how I remember it also. I wonder who has it?

Always spot on and another great video! Like you, I just think that the tones JM got out of the combination of the TR Custom Reverb amps and that bloody Dumble Overdrive Reverb were his best tones! It's a shame that he decided to sell the Dumble Overdrive Reverb ... I much prefer the tones he was getting with that thanthe Dumble SSS ...

Hey Justin. Love the dedication and attention to detail you put into your channel and the content you present. I was wondering what your thoughts ate on how JM was powering his T-rex pedal on the trio board. I've just picked one up not realising its 12v, bit then remember that John was using a Dunlop Power Brick... any thoughts?

When did he start using the Gold Leaf Strat for Vultures? The ES335 is particularly interesting as it was one of the replicas Gibson CS made of Clapton's red ES335. I remember seeing social media posts at the time about it, but the biggest giveaway is the Hare Kirshna sticker on the back of the headstock, just like Clapton put on his original.

Awesome. Was the 335 pretty much used for the song Try? That song is such a fucking gem. So good

No way! Not guitar related but I noticed the other guitarist at 6:58 wearing a tiger woods hat. I was literally thinking of buying one of those yesterday. I was a huge Tiger fan around the time I’m guessing that photo was taken.

Thank you^ Justin! But you never talk about the signal chain and the amp setup, is Mayer going W/D/W or Stereo with his amps? Why does he need 3 amps on stage

Love this! Any chance you have John’s ‘69 Fuzz settings?

So did John tend to use the Boss Bluesdriver over the V1 Marshall Bluesbreaker on the trio board? Also just a note on the 335 I believe it’s actually a custom shop replica of the 335 Clapton used with Cream before he became a Strat player. Probably doesn’t make much of a difference in the overall sound/tone John was getting but thought it was worth a mention
@CalChristiansen032 жыл бұрын
IIRC the bluesbreaker was a bigger thing for the continuum/where the light is tone. someone feel free to correct me if im wrong.
@robertwontkowski80822 жыл бұрын
Yeah the BB is used on Continuum and then sidelined for the Keeley BD-2 during most of the trio. Eventually the BD was replaced with the Klon. There are a couple photos of shows where Mayer plays Klon > Tune Screamer > Bluesbreaker for trio stuff but that seams to be rare.

I like his 3tsb strat and wish he was still a fender artist.

I'm not sure you mentioned it but JMs 335 is a Gibson Custom Shop ES 335 Eric Clapton Crossroads. Built as an exact replica of Claptons! I love strats but 335s are the best guitars ever made!

Could you please do a video on what he uses to get the tone on his Everyday I Have the Blues solo? (The first half, before he flips the wah on). That's like my favorite tone ever and I can't figure it out. I've heard some people say he's using an envelope filter, others say he's using a fuzz turned way down combined with a tube screamer, maybe a combination of all of that, I don't know. But it's just so badass
