It’s a tragedy that The Jon Spencer Blues Explosion has never played The Superbowl Half Time Show.

If he did I'm not sure anyone would watch the 2nd half. I would leave the stadium because this is better than any sporting event in the world

This is potentially one of the greatest live performances by anyone ever. And musically great too - kinda sounds like the Cramps on speed lol

I was in the studio audience for this and I would like to say that it was awesome but little 14yo me was terrified (3:36 Adidas jacket). The atmosphere was intense because of the unpredictability of the whole thing. When we left the studio, I saved a chunk of the Blues Explosion Styrofoam sign and kept it for 5 years or so. I wish I still had it.

I'm shocked! All televisioned band live performances should be chaotic like this! We are tired of this clean versions of shows ... Epic & Legendary!

My favorite moment of this video (tough call, I know, so many possibilities) is Jon Spencer's calculated decision, after realizing he can't easily take down the inflatable R sign, is to run across the performing area OVER Russel Simmons' drum kit, not AROUND it, and tear down the JSBX sign in the back. I saw Jon Spencer play a small venue couple months back where I live, with the drummer and bassist from the Bobby Lees. First time I'd ever seen him play live in the 30 years I've been listening to his music (why? can't really say) I was blown away. He's still got it. Whole band was amazing. The blues is still number one!

I sadly missed out on my chance earlier this year to see Jon Spencer live, as in February he stopped in my state. Wish I had heard about it before now, but still. I can only imagine how damn good that show was

This is what Rock n Roll should look like! Quite possibly the best live performance by any band on the planet.

I've seen them 4 times over 30 years, once with R. L. Burnside in Atlanta. If you have a chance to see them, GO! One of my favorite bands to see in the raw, wild and loud. Keep diggin' that ditch!

Now I know where all the sell out bands got their inspo from, they’re nothing on the JSBX! This epic performance deserves way more views!! I really wish I was there for this - a chaotic performance but something very special.

Is this guy playing a theramin?
@veitchy883 ай бұрын
Yes. It’s a Moog Vanguard. IIRC he added an extra input and/or controls so he could run his guitar through it and into the PA to save bringing a seperate guitar amplifier.

I like that Spencer shoves the cameraman for no apparent reason before attacking the theremin.
@tpbrcombo Жыл бұрын
The cameraman would have affected the pitch of the theremin from where he was so I think he was getting him out of that space but it was excellent theatre nonetheless 😂
