The Uncertain and Difficult Journey
Holocaust survivors Esther and Harry Praw immigrated to the United States with their daughter in 1949, bringing with them only trauma and hope. Sponsored by the Hebrew Immigrant Aid Society, their journey was arduous and the odds of survival slim, but they were able to make a new home in the U.S., obtaining a good education, security, and the chance to thrive. This is the story of immigration attorney Mo Goldman’s maternal grandparents.
Today’s immigrants to the U.S. have similar stories of trauma, seeking the same “American Dream” Harry and Esther did. However, the paths to economic security and permanent protection and status in this country have narrowed considerably over the past several decades. Mr. Goldman will provide perspective and stories of the immigrants of yesteryear and today.
