Italian traveller Pietro Della Valle came India through Persia(Iran) around 15th century . He entered India through South and went to a village with Dubhasia( Translator) and asked people about ruler of the village, people said the ruler is a women and she has gone to field to supervising the digging of a trench so Italian went to field the he sees the women coming along dressed like a kitchen maid and no slippers .when he started talking to her , he found her as wise as Shah of Iran whom he interviewed sometime back. We all know the all time great debate between Adi Shankaracharya vs Ubhaya Bharti ( Mandan Mishra's wife) Gargi vs Yajnavalkya . Nagnika ( ruler and commander in cheif of Satvahna empires) , Anula of Anuradhapura . Women play as important role as men in India but unfortunately invader and colonial impacts destroyed this texture of the society. Indian and Pakistani womens are reclaiming their positions. First time when i read about Aurat March , i was amazed . Salute to women who participate in Aurat March, they are nation builders. Always inspiring to listen Maryam on this podcast. ❤ from kashi.

naik parveen is basically a woman who is accepted by the society. someone who listens to her husband and obeys him all the time. basically talwey chaatna. naik parveen is a woman who is considered a good and acceptable housewife. a lot of "naik parveen" girls in pakistan have this thing where they put down other girls and say stuff like "mai to apney shauhar ki khidmat karti hoon pura din" "main to apni saas ke aagey chu tak nahi karti". so, basically, a woman who is a puppet, pretentious and stupid as hell is called a naik parveen.

Thanks Shehzad for another wonderful podcast. I didn't know Mariam and thanks again for introducing her to me. This is a uniquely sad yet eye-opening podcast. It felt that both men and women are captives in a weirdly surreal yet very real prison. I think this is because of toxic masculinity where men are put on such a pedestal of perfection that they have to be act dominating at every level. What is status of mother in a typical Pakistani family? Is she considered a strong role model? In India, for majority of the people, the experience is very different, most people in India that are of my age works or have worked with men and are now retired. Some commercial segments are completely dominated by women. If women stops going out and stops participating economically, we will easily loose about 40% of the GDP. The loan structure of India also facilitates this as women entrepreneurs, women get loans with better interest rate. There is no shame in doing everyday work, exercise, shopping or wearing reasonably modest clothes like skirts, pants, salwar, saree etc.

Trust me when i say this that yes, in India you see more women in public life and the female participation in the workforce is higher than Pakistan, but harassment, violence and sexism is a part of everyday life. Kehne ko toh hum fastest growing major economy hai, but in terms of women's rights, dalit rights, etc, there still still a lot to be done. And the first step is to talk about it. So Kudos, TPE

I have been living in Germany since 2011, yes German have made me realize how we don’t appreciate our languages, that if someone speaks Urdu only they are considered “unintelligent”. But Shehzad’s fixation on Urdu and local languages did not fit in Germany’s context, they also have local dialects e.g. Bavarian has very different vocabulary and if one really starts speaking even other German from other regions may not fully understand it. I agree forcing it on Bangladesh was 100% wrong but the real problem of Urdu in Pakistan is lack of self respect and pride in our local languages and culture as she implied

Thank you Shehzad for giving another nice podcast. Good to see mariam after a long time. Just want to say that we live in a society where suppression and religiosity has been induced over dacades, which has built thick layers of rusts and getting rid of it can never be easy. so change would only come through repetitively reiterating the ideas and continuous activism, no matter how boring it may sound to ourselves and no matter how fed up it may makes us feel. Its a frictional process, and the shiny surface comes out only through tedious and continues rubbing of the sand paper over the rusty iron.

The good thing about Andrew Tate is that is he teaches men to go to the gym and get healthier but the approach he has taken is really deadly for the society. He built his own empire on the base of webcam/Onlyf*ns models through p*ornography and casinos in Romania. Then he used that money to build the Hustlers University. It's good to tell people to become healthier and make money but the sheer focus on consumerism is a big red flag. I mean we criticise women who do p*ornography but we don't criticise the e-pimps that are managing the whole system. Moreover, Andrew Tate is indirectly part of the matrix because he is part of the neo-liberal capitalist system earning millions of dollars by selling a dream to young teenagers. Although he has crticised the capitalist system in the past, he is literally part of that very system that is exploiting people.
@ThePakistanExperience10 ай бұрын

@darthvader5610 ай бұрын
@@ThePakistanExperience Yes you are right. When you have a lot of capital, you can get some pretty good lawyers to get you out of a lot of stuff. John Pilger calls it the Wealth-Defense complex. The odd thing I have noticed these days is that Andrew Tate and other influencers from his spheres are becoming Muslim and using Islam to shield their behaviour. I mean Islam doesn't teach us to be materialistic maniacs that just care about Ferrari's and the accumulation of wealth. And it clearly doesn't teach us to treat women like slaves. It feels as if they are becoming Muslim for clout and I am amazed at those religious scholars that speedily come in support of their behaviour. Also, they bully and make people feel bad for their financial situation. Then they say that if you buy my course/university subscription, you can become a millionaire. There are a lot of factors for someone to be in a bad financial situation. Mocking someone for their financial situation, regardless of how it came to be, and then exploiting that to sell them something is unbelievable. Instead of focusing on the larger exploitative system, influencers these days are using this tactic to further squeeze the peoples pockets.

Dear Shehzad, I must say that you are a good communicator. Although I haven't seen all of your podcasts, I have been watching lately, and I kind of like what you are doing here. I appreciate the fact that you give space to others to have different opinions. I would like to give you a thought. Rather than using very strong words like "dehumanising" and "no space for women," you could have articulated yourself in a better way. I know you can. It is very unfortunate how things are, and I couldn't agree more that things should be way better than what is going on. But for a while, think about it, isn't it easier to point out bad stuff about people, countries, cultures, and even anything? If you want to discuss the severity of the matter, then you must highlight its root cause and come up with practical solutions that could really help. I am sure that would be a lot more interesting than someone coming and discussing things that they are frustrated about. Two requests: First, don't judge this comment because of its length. Secondly, what you are doing is fab, but don't just do it to give a show. Do it with a purpose. After all, you have named this podcast "The Pakistan Experience." And don't forget, you are the Pakistan experience too. You gave respect to women and gave them space and liberty as well. I am pretty sure that is the true Pakistan experience, not that which was depicted. I know the opposite is happening, but to be honest, that is happening everywhere. But I am sure that there is more space for women than men in the real Pakistan experience.
