When you’re not a professional, but a serious hobbyist player, it can be hard to keep the fire burning. Finding practice time, keeping a band of busy adults together, etc. Because we love the music and want to be part of it and enlighten ourselves with the constant discovery that jazz brings. More than your great playing, your positive attitude is always a source of encouragement and inspiration. Thanks.

Bob, I know you probably know this, but its Jamie from the 2019 Inside Outside Retreat. I'm happy to be one of those 100K for quite a few years! Thank you for all you do for the saxophone community. I am very thankful for being given the chance to meet you, hear you and learn from you during that retreat. I had arrived there thinking I'm not too bad of a player, and it was a rewarding experience to find out from you and the others that there's more work to be done, always something to work on, and something new about music I can learn at any given time. Thank you for being such an inspiration to me for the past decade and a bit.

Congrats on all your JOYS in your Life. From being so involved with your Wife and each Kid to Teaching and Playing with Heart Thought and Humility! Love on Ya! I knocked out some pretty good ones this year like Along Came Betty and Fee-Fi-Fo-Fum, so i'm feeling pretty inspired! Congrats Bob! I'm so happy to see this channel going strong. I remember back when i found you, i watched your a capella Donna Lee video and that was the one i used to learn the melody by ear. Just having the sax by itself really made it easier for me to process and start getting into transcribing for the first time. It's been a ride and i hope it keeps going and picks up another 100,000 riders!

Bob, I have been a subscriber for many years now, and what strikes me is that I’m surprised you don’t have a million subscribers. When I first discovered your channel, I admit I OD’d on your VLOGs. I went back to your first one and watched them all. What is so unique about your videos is that you uncover all kinds of “secrets” for playing better, while addressing the reality of balancing your art, your family and your business. There are all kinds of “self help” videos available, but none compares to yours. Also, there are so many artists, including Grammy recipients like yourself, that are caught up in their own self importance. You are not one of them. May the New Year treat you well. Congratulations!

Hi Bob! Been following your channel for a while, I love getting insight into your practice strategies and what you're doing because I don't think professional amateurs (me) get to see what it's like! I think it's easy to mythologize the "pros" and not really understand that you're human too, just with a lot of practice... Since I started watching years ago, I finished college with a double major (one in music!) and do my best to play and enjoy my horns. Bari has been getting more and more addicting lately, and I'm thinking that since it's not my career, I can move away from alto/tenor and really enjoy whatever speaks to me! I can't do multi-hour practice sessions, but I've never gotten worse as I got older, only better. I just have the rest of my life to keep enjoying music :)

My biggest takeaway from this video is that you are successfully (whatever that word means) navigating the conflicting demands of family life with a musical career-- no easy feat. Bob, it's been fun watching this sax-based video ecosystem grow. It's truly become a haven for all things jazz music, which sadly has lost traction in the broader culture, or maybe not so sadly. Anyway, I'm a huge supporter since I saw you at the Baked Potato in July a couple years ago (totally on a whim while I was solo camping out in Malibu).
