I've had 7 total, first was a '73 tii I bought as my first car in 1983. It was ten years old and was still a $6500 car then! Ridiculously expensive at the time for a high-school student, and lots slower than the 15 year old muscle-cars everyone else was driving. But it would happily cruise the highway at 80-85 all day, which few domestics of the day could. By today's standards, 2002s are pretty crude and small inside. You will quite literally rub shoulders with the passenger while driving, if you do any of the period performance mods (headers, dual side-draft carbs) it will be incredibly noisy, and mechanical reliability, while decent for the time, is less-so today. Carry an extra belt and ignition points and condenser if you keep one 100% stock, but seriously consider upgrading to electronic ignition for daily driving, you can always reinstall the old-school ignition if originality is required for some reason. I would dearly love to have another, but without a garage, the Florida weather will rust one in a hurry.
