Reentry simulator is a really important and unique addition to space software and gaming in the market for anyone interested in procedural realism. Hopefully it will continue to grow and improve during the years, even though it's not as "popular" as some "main stream games", which is of course expected. Space nerds like us are not so many in comparison. Just giving some respect here and two thumbs up, please keep going. Thanks.

The main reason i see it being so hard especially with apollo, is the craft has checklists designed for multiple astronauts. Gemini is designed for 2, apollo cm is designed for 2/3 and LM is designed for 2. In the game, it’s just you trying to do everything.

By far, the best space simulator ever. I've been spending a long time studying the Manuals before my first flght. Let me tell you, it differs a lot from a usual Flight Simulator. It is not as easy as learning the basics and strapping in and getting launched. You have to dig deep in the knowledge of space travel first to understand what's going on and how can you move ane accomplish the mission. Very thrilled by the announcement of some Apollo missions, like Apollo 13. Even though it means to assume a rather passive position as an expectator, it has the advantage of allowing to see and listen what Astronauts could really see/listen by their own eyes. I hope it won't stop only in Apollo 13 but rather include other historic missions like "J" missions including rides on the Lunar Rover and of course Apollo 11 / 17, that is to say first and last Moon missions. And I hope it does not end here. Gemini 8 must be included too. Paraphrasing you at the end of the video, I guess the one who has to thank is myself, because when I found your simulator, I was looking something to simulate a Moon travel. The best attempt before was a community effort to recreate an Apollo simulator, but using an outdated technology, guess compararble with Flight Simulator 2004. It was a very good attempt but graphics were bad and desperately needed a boost! Furthermore, systems were treated in a superficial way and there was nothing else in the Internet scope or the market. There appeared Kerbal, but Kerbal Space was looking for another goals that differed from what I wanted. It was a much more flexible simulator, indeed, but it missed the dedication and the depth I was looking for in Translunar Flight. Then I found your product. And it amazed me! It was what I was searching for, and a lot more! And even though its immersion capacity and effort in takes to master it, I found it at a jokingly low price! Considering that a good state-of-the-art Flight Simulator rises well over US$ 120. Very satisfied that you have switched around Complex 39 stations and LUT to fit the real thing, a matter I suggested you back in 2018, I guess, for before, I guess intentionally, you built them up in a mirror view; for instance, placing the swinging arm of LUT at the left hand instead the right hand, for instance. I'm not sure why, but I believe there must be some old regulation affecting all graphical reconstructions of Apollo real flights to leave graphical signs that differ from real images. For instance, Apollo 13 movie's rocket and LUT was one of the best reconstructions I've seen of a Saturn/Apollo launch, ever, with an exquisite dedication to even minor details. However, there were several clues left to warn any specialized viewer, that these were not real shots from the real flight: for instance, black stripes along the base of S-1C were longer, coping all the second corrugated ring from base-to-top, when in real S-1C, they ended just at the beginning of that ring. There was an unreal disposition of the service arms in the LUT and these retracted in a sequence, when in real launches they tended to retract mostly at the same time. No one forced Brian Grazer and Ron Howard to make those coarse (considering their attention to details) changes, but "something" forced them to do so. I believe you were faced to the same restriction and decided to place everything twisted around. I am so happy today that is back to the normal form. Guess that foolish restriction (if there is) may be satisfied just with some watermark of some sort. But as a challenge for the future, there lies the introduction of the new NASA endevour plan for manned flight: Artemis, Space Gateway and their mixture with commercial companies like SpaceX, Boeing and Blue Origin. It is a hard, very hard jump, indeed. But before that, let me suggest you some minor changes in graphics: First, I am amazed by the inclusion of those random "flashes" on the viewfield. For those unfamiliar with sopaceflight, when you fly in the proximity of Van Allen's rings Astronauts experience those ocassional flashes in their retinas. It begins scarcely in LEO, but increases in frequency during the first days of a translunar flight. It has been suggested it is a normal response of eye retinas and optical nerves to the passing of a blend of cosmic rays and sun particles trapped mostly in Van Allen's rings. On the surface of Earth we are well armored by our ozone layer and planet's magnetic field, so those flashes are rather very, very scarce. Rather that a nuisance, they were a curiosity for Astros, until the last "J" Apollo Missions where crews were provided with special black masks and an electric thumb-counter to record the "density" changes of those flashes as they coasted to and from the Moon. Scientist saw an important correlation to parts of the Van Allen's rings and the frequency of those flashes, even though they seem to appear less frequently during all the missions. So, congrats! Well, about graphics, a simple suggestion. Your program would increase a lot in realism if you included a more realistic approach on the sunlight. Increase contrast a good and generous bit. Make stars much less visible when looking at an enlighted surface, like mostly, the Earth or Moon surfaces. Just like photographs show, you can hardly see a celestial body, apart from the Moon, in a photograph taken from the window of a spaceship. That for in reality your eyes have also difficulty to see them in any sunny side. The difference of the space (or the Moon) with Earth is that if you look for a shady place and avoid looking at lite surfaces, in some 20 secs. the sky begins to get full of trillions of stars that don't twinkle at all. Conversely, in the transition from a daytime to a nightime in orbit, you must astonish us with a simulated pupil and retina adaptation to darkness within some 20 secs, with a magical apparition of a night sky studded of stars and, of course, an unbelieable Milky Way. Remember to include in Lunar orbit, Earth's nocturnal light, much more potent than Moon's night lighting on Earth. A bluish soft glow covering craters and Lunar topography slowly decreasing towards Earth's face Moon terminator, mainly when Moon missions coincided with waxing Moon phases (and almost full Earth phase), as most missions to land in the Western Moon rim. Missions like Apollo 12, 13, 14 and maybe 15, that bluish glow must have been softer. In the other missions, Astronauts say they could almost see minor topographic details on naked eye. Earth's albedo is the highest in all the known planets of our Solar System. Remember, too, to contrast it with the absolute blackness of the endarked area of the far side. Astros were usually surprised of the degree of darkness and its contrast with the Earth lite night. In Earth's orbit, when coming to the night side, you can highlight (literally) cities and towns lights and close to polar zones, add northern and southern soft lights too, but only when in the dark side of the planet, away from sunbeams. It is not realistic if when seen from Translunar coast, you see a partially illuminated Earth, you can see stars around and cities and auroras too! That, because the light that emanates from the sunny side is so powerfu that forces our pupils and retinas to adapt to that level of light, avoiding us to perceive those other details; except only when we see the Earth mainly from its dark side and the luminous side is almost a thin border. I also expect you may increase resolution of clouds in your depiction of them. I'd mean you also may enhance the quality of the general Earthscape. One of the main things one supposedly makes in space is get fabbergasted contemplating the only thing literally full of color: the Earth. Apart of that, anything surrounding you might almost be part of a black and white movie... except your spaceship. That must be empowered in your effort, well, until a long time ahead, when you begin to include other planets. That's all I had to say, dear Petri. I thank you again for this great present you handed so unselfishly.

@ReentryAnOrbitalSimulator
@ReentryAnOrbitalSimulator 3 ай бұрын
Hi! This is based on mission configuration and I support both. A shuttle could both execute what I show here or what they call a heads-up ascent, where a roll maneuver turned it 180 degrees. Some pitch was used to compensate forces but mainly roll. I have yet to implement proper gimbal sequences and the gimbal testing, but it's important that, as mentioned in the video, this is early in development. However my main goal is to make this accessible for as many as possible, and for most, maybe their first step into a shuttle, and go deeper in other focused shuttle sims, something I aim to be transparent about.

It's an awesome game and concept tbh. My ultimate dream with a game/sim like this is being able to do a mission to mars and take the first steps there. I am of course fully aware that the level of complexity for that is insane, and that since we've yet to do it in reality it'd be a 'best guess' I've always liked the idea of games focused on realism like this one taking one or two steps out into the future by themselves because A: It's extremely fun and B: it gives us a glimpse of what *may* be to come, which I adore. We've had that kind of thing in at least *some* form since the pretty early days of Orbiter, this would just be a step further with being more in depth. And as a final aside, I've personally always wanted a game that'll step up and do a fairly 'hardcore' sim of a *very* advanced craft that could do round trips to mars and earth, and maybe beyond. Think something at or just below the technology level of The Expanse (just below may be the most interesting if consumables are still a real factor but there is quite a lot of margin) there have been a few attempts but there is yet to be a fully complete game that's done this. This may not be that game, and maybe it should *not* be, but it's certainly coming the closest of anything in a long while and I think there is appetite for it, so I'd be remiss not to mention it. If you were ever to do a sequel or another related project, one where you hopefully have at least a small team, consider it?

The learning curve gets steeper as the spacecraft become more complex, but Reentry includes several "Academy" lessons for each spacecraft that go over the various individual systems and procedures. If you do those Academy lessons and, like this video suggests, learn each spacecraft in historical order (Mercury, then Gemini, then Apollo), you should be able to get the hang of it all.
