I think one of the most haunting adventure time scenes is when young marceline is standing in front of the burning world after the bomb goes off. There’s just something so overwhelming about it that really adds to the dread for me.

I had the opposite problem interestingly. I kept trying to tab back in the video and see what was being talked about since it's been so long since I've seen the show, and I can't remember what a lot of the characters looked like. Kept tabbing in, remembering there's no video, and googling the characters instead @@mikeycomito3045

great video. Adventure Time really is the TV show that's been with me my entire life. i'm someone who struggles a lot with anxiety and irrational fears regarding, among others, the wellbeing of my family, friends and pets and with you sharing your own feelings, thoughts and stories alongside and relating them to Adventure Time made me emotional and gave me a broader appreciation for the show. i really appreciate media that doesn't brush off those fears as "hysterics" and your video gave me some, ig reassurance now feeling that the show i grew up with can, in a way hold my hand so to speak, through these struggles. i also kinda feel as if this video has given me some understanding of me? maybe? idk but i feel like i understand why this show has always stuck with me, so thank you. great video

As someone who grew up with a tough relationship with my father and had an extremely close relationship with a brother I lost in my teens, watching adventure time as an adult really hit me hard. I actually avoided watching the show for a decade because it was so tied to my brother in my mind. This entire exploration was really well done and I really appreciate your exploration into grief as a theme in the show. Kudos to you:)

Just something to point out, Cinnamon Bun ISNT on the spectrum and I don’t think is supposed to be read as such. In the very first episode he has a totally different voice, before hitting his head REALLY HARD, and from that point on, he’s the “Half-Baked” Cinnamon Bun we’re used to
@Lee-fs1rg
@Lee-fs1rg 11 ай бұрын
Totally agree. I think the point they were trying to get across is the rampant ableism inherent to the AT lore. The "half-baked" representation is a poor creative choice since traumatic brain injuries are already stigmatized.
@scumshine2351
@scumshine2351 10 ай бұрын
maybe im way off here but i kinda disagree with the sentiment that CB getting “fixed” is problematic. i guess the way I see it is that he’s a representation that even with a traumatic brain injury or “birth defect,” he isn’t just entirely useless. those things don’t make a person a worthless background character always to be laughed at or made fun of or looked down on. it took time but eventually he found a place that really suited him, and a situation that brought out the best in him. and people with whatever speculative conditions aren’t just dummies, they can find a place, do a thing, be really good at that thing. maybe the fact that the show makes it seem like you have to do those things to have value is the problematic part? maybe i didn’t think this thru and the show /is/ just ableist. idk.

When I first experienced adventure time I absorbed it sort of passively, engaging with the characters and stories but not wading to deep into the themes until one day I looked back at the sheer magnitude of the show and the experiences it gave me and it hit me like a truck. This video essay was like standing on a highway and having that truck be accompanied by a whole lot of other traffic to metaphorically run over my heart multiple times. It was fantastic, thanks for making this, its lead to a much greater understanding of one of my favorite shows! Definatly subscribing.

wasn't gonna leave a comment but I literally started crying as soon as a saw a picture of Boo at the end of the video. Boo looks almost exactly like my old dog that my family had to put down during my first year of college. Idk it just made me kinda emotional. That was also a time where I got very nostalgic for childhood, and I started watching more cartoons in early college (and consequently rewatching adventure time). Anyways, I really connected with your interpretation of the themes of adventure time!

This has been sitting in my watch later list for a while because it was a bit hefty bc I knew it would hit me really hard but it was so fuckin good. It’s incredible how you managed to put to words some of the intangibles of the show I feel I can’t convey well when I say I’m a fan of adventure time. The real life philosophy it introduced me to that still applies to me as an adult. The trials and tribulations of growing up and existing in an impossibly huge world full of real pain but also real bliss in a constant cycle all wrapped in a beautiful kid friendly package. I really appreciate you sharing your story about Boo, I’m currently agonizing over the mortality of a pet and some of the things you said were things I really needed to hear and inspired me to enjoy the time I have with my boy instead of worrying about the time when I won’t. I sincerely thank you for that.

40:59 An interesting detail regarding Phlannel Boxingday and his supposedly being PB in a costume: In the Fionna and Cake series, we actually see a female Phlannel in the background at the ice rink, implying that Phlannel actually WAS NOT Princess Bubblegum. I do think the implication and suspicion of it was an important part of the themes and narrative of that episode though, and whether it was PB or not was never really the point, but they did end up showing this detail that confirms it wasn't.

Amazing video!!! I wrote an essay on Entrapta as an autistic character that included lemongrab and cinnamon bun! I personally saw both Lemongrab and CB as examples of failure to support in effective and appropriate ways, both "stabilize" when they are removed from PB's specific style of support and are given what they individually need through others and individuality, but it is unfortunate that they flail in thr ways they do at surface level :( CB is still a favorite for autistic rep for me ESPECIALLY with his flame wolf being a service animal and the parallel of him and bun bun.

Two hour podcast format video covering the entire span of adventure times run in detail with analysis doesn’t fit the video essay format? Idk if this was intended quite as rude as it came off but the only difference between this and other long form video essay type content is the lack of visuals to go along with it, don’t diminish peoples hard work trying to be a critic
