Hey everybody! Thanks for watching this video on, "The Joy of Live Music +". Bon Iver". I went to Justin Vernon / Bon Iver's show last week and had one of the best concert experiences of my life. Between the outdoor venue, a remarkable opener in Bonny Light Horseman, the inventive setlist, the talent and emotion of the performers on stage, and so much more, it was spiritual. Can't recommend seeing this show enough!

I’ve been watching recordings of Bon Iver perform Blood Bank live for the past couple weeks. I’m so amazed at how he can take such a stripped-back, slow burning song, and turn it into a whole multi-faceted experience in a live setting. I really admire the way he uses live performances to reinvent his songs.

I wish they'd put out an official live recorded version including that incredible rock outro they've been putting at the end of their Blood Bank live performances from this tour! It was the highlight of the show I saw and still gives me goosebumps

During an interview that Justin Vernon had with Ezra Koenig on Time Crisis. They both geeked out over the Grateful Dead and how it has influenced them to build a better live show. I haven’t been to Bon Iver yet but I saw Vampire Weekend and it had a similar feeling. They would change songs to better showcase the talents of their musicians. I hope more artists go in this direction as most of the revenue for musicians is made through live shows.

I was at the St.Louis show last weekend. First time seeing him live in person. Being in a sea of people who all have this strong feeling and emotional connection with an artist's work is unlike anything I had experienced. I stood for most of the songs, occasionally gripping the seat in front of me like a church pew. The venue was outdoors but with a canopy. By the end of the show it felt like the a southern Baptist tent church revival. He ended the show saying "Now go out and spread love" .

100% agree about opening acts! I saw the brilliant Phil Cook open up for The Tallest Man on Earth, who I've definitely enjoyed more of. And definitely The Staves opening up for Sean Carey was brilliant! It was at Village Underground in Shoreditch and I could have sworn Justin Vernon walked right past me wearing a red cap in a very concealing manner, great times of my youth in retrospect.

I saw Bon Iver a week earlier on June 4 in Pittsburgh. I came all the way from Canada to go see them and I can say it was definitely worth it. The most amazing concert and one of the best experiences in my life. I wasn’t expecting to see you post this video but I am so glad you did as more people need to experience them live.

I’m glad it’s not just me. Haven’t caught Bon Iver live but it’s on my bucket list. I’ve collected all the best live shows from KZbin into a playlist and largely listen to them instead of the album tracks. I understand all the time and energy and talent that goes into album making and to then see the band surpass those recordings with a live stage show is amazing.

Duuude! Idk if you know this and didn't mention it bc it's not the topic of the video ...but.... Anais Mitchell is the person who wrote Hadestown (a now musical) and on the studio album (~2009) Justin Vernon sings Orpheus, one of the main characters! (Anais sings Eurydice) Love to see them both in a video together again ^-^

I saw them in Atlanta this past April and then again a week later on St Augustine just because it was such a good show. The set lists were also totally different! While there was some overlap in the songs they played, the order they played them in was totally different. I brought my family, many of who had little to no experience with his music, and they were all blown away. Blood Bank and 10 d E A T h b R E a s T will remain peak moments of live music for the rest of my life.

I saw Bon Iver in Lewiston on the 7th of June, and it was an amazing show. I love how they never play the same setlist twice, so I had no clue what they were going to play. Oftentimes during the show I was purely swept away by the pure beauty of the music and the outdoors of the venue (my friend and I were on Artpark's hill, at the very top center. Best seats in the house)...such a gorgeous show, and a fantastic display of talent.

Thank you for your comment on the openers cuz I totally agree. I went to a concert fest called Ciderstock in Vermont where 311 was the headliner but right before them was Moon Taxi. I never heard of them and was thinking of just waiting to arrive when Moon Taxi were almost done so I can just see 311. But last second me and my friend decided to just get there early and watch them because A. Parking would be easier and B. Another friend who we were meeting there wanted to get there early. We get there and Moon Taxi plays and they were one of the best live shows i’ve ever seen. Holy fuck they’re such a presence. I became a fan instantly.

I couldn’t agree more with all of it. I saw Bon Iver live a few years ago and I always have said it was my favorite concert. So when I saw his tour announcement, I had to go again. This time I took my boyfriend and we splurged on better seats. The show really was amazing, and it really won my boyfriend over into being a fan like me. My favorite song they played was 666; I had chills the entire time. Can’t wait to go again

Saw his one night only For Emma Ten Year Anniversary Show with Field Report, great, and A Collection of Bees, awful. That was the most special show I’ve ever been to. By far. Then his first and so far only Summer Fest performance. Julian Baker I’ve been a big fan of for a while and she was so great. Lord Houron went on after and I’m just not a fan. Tried to get into their music before the concert and just didn’t click. Bon Iver was again incredible. Does anyone know why Mikey stopped playing with them? His solo vocal performance of Simple Man was a highlight of the Ten Year show.

I love seeing Justin with what essentially looks like an iPad on his rig. I’ve seen a lot of very well established acts with some kind of prompter for their lyrics the last few years, (I’m aware it probably wasn’t just for that reason but nevertheless) - I’ve seen Matt Berninger of The National and Florence Shaw of Dry Cleaning do this as well and its cool to see that that has become normalized. Just like there was and in some circles still is a bit of taboo around selling out (whatever that means) there still seems to be a stigma around having a prompt of some kind for lyrics but I’d so much rather someone craft an amazing show with words on hand than fumble without them.

This sounds crazy, but I personally witnessed a girl 2 rows in front of me collapse at the climax of Holocene. One of the people next to her, heard her say it's so pretty then she fell over. Justin had to stop the concert to get medics. But they got there pretty quick. I suspect it is from the heat due to it being Houston. One the twenty-two in a million chance someone sees this I hope it turned out okay.
