On the availability of Sandkings question, it it included in the anthology "Big Book of Science Fiction" published by Vintage. And I'm sure his Dreamsongs collection of his short stories is still in print.

Yes! Stripped Cover Lit are creating such fantastic tags. I get so excited on Tuesdays to see what they come up with, and then to see the responses! Their daily uploads bring me so much happiness.

Okay, you’ve convinced me to try Dracula again! The first couple of chapters didn’t agree with me last year and I’ve always intended to come back to it. You’ve given me the push!

Shall we do a read-along? Might that help?

I think that would be a big help! 😉

Another great video, Steve. Thanks to your videos I have intentions of checking out Pete Dexter and Michael Shaara. You're always introducing me to new writers, and for that I'm extremely grateful.

Why thank you! I'm certainly extremely grateful for having so many people out there who are willing to tune in and listen to me natter on about books every day!

Wait, so romance wasn't listed as a genre here, but YA was (eye roll) YA isn't a genre, its an age group, there can be many genres within YA (contemporary, fantasy, mystery....), but it is not a genre unto itself. Sorry, just a pet peeve of mine. I read Dracula a few years back and it was amazing! It wasn't gory like horror is now (one of the reasons I don't read it), but so atmospheric, it really gave me chills, especially the first half when he is in Dracula's castle. Suggestion! A Dracula readalong in October, I would love to read it again.

THANK you! I think I can't stand fantasy because I attempted LOTR prematurely. I thought for sure you'd include a biography somewhere.

I loved this tag! I’m looking forward to reading The Light at the End someday. Sandkings is a story that will never leave my mind!

I love reading horror books at night in bed because I don't get scared when I'm surrounded by my three snoring dogs. I didn't realize George RR Martin wrote some great short stories until last year when I stumbled across his The Pear-Shaped Man.

Admittedly im surprised about your thoughts on George rr Martin. He really brought me full throttle back to reading.
@saintdonoghue5 жыл бұрын
He brought LOTS of people full-throttle back to reading, and I love him for it! But "A Song of Ice and Fire" should have been a tightly-controlled beginning-middle-and-end trilogy, not a hyperdramatic soap opera ...

Steve Donoghue A big problem I do have is that series will most likely never be finished.

Isn’t that odd; I thought Ender’s Game was absolute b.s. Just a crap idea, although it was ok in the execution. No doubt years of working with children colored my opinion. The rest of your recommendations are really good, especially The King Of Elfland’s Daughter and Roz Chast. They’re great jumping-off spots.
