An upvote for 1066! I also read this many years ago and loved it.

I absolutely NEED to read Hannah Arendt this year. I've put off reading her for far too long.

Great video - I really love the fact that you included the Exercises by St. Ignatius, I think so many people today, christian or not, would benefit tremendously from his perspective on self-mastery. I’ve also read most of his letters and the insights are endless. You get the impression that he must have had a Navy Seal-like approach to everything in his life (of course, he started as a soldier and then was wounded), and that hyper-disciplined attitude to the spiritual life is, like you said, very calming and centering in itself.

Having my own original tag done on the very same day as I post it! What an honor! That’s hilarious: The Ecclesiastical History almost made it onto my list too!

Interesting list. I think I will have Woolf but haven't read any of the others in English or any other language. I would say not "imagine if Hannah Arendt had died" but imagine if those others had lived - how many other authors, scientists, teachers etc did the world lose? We don't miss the Kafka that we never had.

Wow, that's a fantastic point: yes, imagine if those others had lived. That's downright haunting.

Steve Donoghue there were so many musicians and poets and writers lost. So sad.

I’ve had Morrison’s Two Ocean War sitting on my shelf for quite some time. You mentioning it on your top ten list should give me the nudge to finally pick it up.

This is probably the most unique and erudite response we will see for this tag, IMO.

I adore Bede! He’d certainly be on my list. Gibbon is on my list for the year and I hope to be as enamored by it as everyone else!

Not the best solution, but: 'History of the United States Naval Operations in WWII by Samuel Eliot Morison' is available, eventually, in an odd facsimile pdf format from.

I read Eichmann in Jerusalem last year and have Origins of Totalitarianism. Perhaps this is the year for it.
