There are two different types of covers. One where you create a new piece of music alluding to the inspiration but standing alone as its own. It has a different feel, something unique, something inspired. The other is where you sound just like the the original, but with your own instruments, your usual effects, or simply change the key, making a slightly different, derivative (usually worse) song. The former is clever, the latter is lazy. This is [blank]. I’ll let others fill in the blank.
