Just fyi yeah Camp Cretaceous doesn’t ever take place on Isla Sorna and the baby T-Rex was flown in so the lone adult T-Rex was the only one on the boat. My bad, been a while since I’ve seen Lost World and like I said in the video have never watched Camp Cretaceous. Also I take back everything I said about Klayton Fioriti in this video. He's a proud piece of shit and I regret giving him a spotlight here. Granted my channel is far smaller than his so I don't think it actually gave him any fans but still. They’ve shown off those ideas and simultaneously destroyed them. Indo rex and raptor both died, and while the indoraptor was a hybrid the indominus rex was a man made beast. I love that they killed both off and showed “life finds a way”. It’s why Jurassic world and fallen kingdom are under appreciated.

Actually the idea of dino-human hybrids was never gonna happen. In reality the production team hired a concept artist who was going to work on the art for the fourth movie. So while they were making the script for the hundred time, the artist got a bit bored and started to draw the dino-hybrids but someone found and leaked it online claiming it was going to be Jurassic Park 4 when in reality some lunatic just leaked an artist's drawings when they got bored.

Fun fact: The reason so much was cut from the Spino vs. T-Rex fight in JP3 was because the newly built animatronic puppet for the Spinosaurus actually decapitated the T-Rex animatronic they were reusing from The Lost World while they were shooting the “Spino slapping Rex in the face” part. Since they no longer had the Rex puppet, the writers and crew had to hastily rewrite the fight to work with the small amount of usable footage they had, giving us the controversial curbstomp we know today.

That’s a rehashed scene from the OG book, it was storyboarded but cut from the 93 film, Wu and Hammond arguing in a bungalow, “You didn’t ask me for ‘Real” etc, I like that they finally approached it in JW, but it’s been the reason from day 1 as to why the dinosaurs look how they do

One of the big themes in the original novel and points of contention between Wu and Hammond is that the dinosaurs are in fact inaccurate by nature of how they were created. Hammond wants to give people what they want to see in the dinosaurs(big, scary, unpredictable so people have more 'fun') but Wu wants to make them more docile and controllable. They have a few conversations about this.

False, in the novel the dinosaurs are accurate, it's said that those were exactly as their mesozoic counterparts, but Wu was worried that people wouldn't like the real dinosaurs, he ask Hammond if he can do dumber, slower and bigger dinosaurs, to fit in people's expectations

This iceberg made me realize how the original Jurassic Park was essentially lightning in a bottle. There was something unique about it that neither sequels nor spinoffs could capture and the goofy elements (like the very idea of cloning and genetic manipulation, didn't dr. Wu say that their dinosaurs had more to do with dragons than actual dinosaurs?) didn't really matter much. I feel the creators tried to capture this uniqueness and couldn't. It might indicate that maybe nobody knew what they really wanted with the sequels and spinoffs, that's why they became so divisive and there's so much difficulty in making new dinosaur movies that can breach the mainstream like the intro mused about.

There were a few things that made the movie stand out. First, the Michael Crichton book was very good so they had a basic template to work with (even if they heavily veered off course), and the way the dinosaurs were depicted in both the book and the film was revolutionary since dinosaurs were usually depicted as slow-moving with dragging tails (not to say that more modern theories about dinosaurs weren't already in circulation, but it wasn't part of the public sphere at the time). In conjunction with Spielberg adding his Indiana Jones adventure style, a competent cast of actors, and excellent special effects, it was really lightning in a bottle.

Weird fact, the school I went to for k-8 uses the original jurrasic park score as the music kids walk to for the 8th grade graduation ceremony. I believe the story is the school allowed the first graduating class to pick the music and they still use it to this day. In the Sega Mega Drive/Genesis video game of the original Jurassic Park, made in 1993 by developer Blue Sky Software, it features a level, when playing as Alan Grant, where you have to travel down a river in a motorised raft while avoiding attacks by the T-Rex. So the movie might not feature that great sequence from the novel, but the Mega Drive/Genesis game does. 😁

There’s a great scene in the first book where Alan grant has been chased by the raptors into the incubation room. He grabs a Raptor egg and rolls it towards the Raptors, assuming that their parental instincts will kick in and they’ll chase after it, but the raptors just eat it and continue towards him

This detail would later have Grant make the most genius power move, where he injects a poisonous chemical into a couple of Raptor egg. Than rolled these eggs towards the Raptors again, knowing that the Raptors would eat them too. The Raptors would then die from being contaminated by the eggs.

Relating to the Spinosaurus controversy, the way I view it is that the Spinosaurus in Jurassic Park 3 is somewhat akin to the Indominus Rex, in that it’s a genetic experiment. I know that promotion for Jurassic World had some hidden files related to the Spinosaurus being subject to experiments on Isla Sorna years prior but I can’t remember what exactly was said. Personally my interpretation is that I think it may have been an experiment gone wrong that led to a highly aggressive genetically modified Spinosaurus (possibly made for purposes of war?) This would explain the inconsistencies with our modern view of Spinosaurus, as it could be an early attempt at a genetic hybrid like the Indominus Rex. EDIT: finished the video, saw you mention this theory haha, yeah I always thought the scorpius Rex being the first hybrid explanation was an annoying and inconsiderate thing to add personally, but hey - it is was it is

It is strange how franchises work in America. I loved the first couple of movies as a child, and yet I was completely unaware of almost everything in this video. Besides the movies, I only knew about the first book and some of the earliest videogames. I'm not sure how I feel about all of this. Especially the idea that the second book was influenced by the movies and stuff like a stage show seem to weaken the story.

Dilophosaurus was actually one of the larger predators of its time period, quite large, in fact. Its size in JP is closer to Velociraptor, and vice versa.

I don’t know how controversial this is, but I much prefer the novels that being Jurassic park and the lost world over their movie counterpart’s especially the lost world. I understand movies are very expensive to make, but I would have loved and still want to see movies that follow the plots of the 2 Michael Crichton novels. I still believe that the Jurassic park movie we got is a cinematic masterpiece and is one of my favorite movies of all time, but I think it would be cool for a different take on the classic story.

I would personally love a animated mini series for both of the novels, following the plot points beat for beat. I would imagine it as a mix between the recent Invincible cartoon in terms of it’s violences, and the Shining TV Mini Series where it dives deeper into themes and ideas of the book than what the movies touched the tip of. Sure, I know the troubles of adapting a book to a video format like a movie. First reason being that a book is (most of the time) all about telling. Telling is a big no no for movies as they should follow the classic rule of “show don’t tell”. Second reason, books can get away with being longer since it’s not required to be completely in one sitting like a movie is. This freedom that books process allows them to explore their topic for how ever long that they see fit. Now there are times when less is more, as demonstrated by another Steven Spielberg movie vs it’s book counterpart, Jaws. The book has many plot points that are in the movie, such as the Mafia ties with the mayor and a love affair between Hooper and Brody’s Wife. These unnecessary parts just bloats the main story of a man eating shark on the loose. The movie not only benefits the main course of the story, but it also removes most of what made the book so unbearable, the horribly miserable character. As Spielberg was developing the script for Jaws, he originally wanted the shark to win because of how unlikable the main characters were. He thankful took a different direction and set out to make Brody, Hooper, and Quint more likable as a small group of friends. Hooper is still a smart ass but at least he ain’t fucking Brody’s wife behind his. (There’s also the fact that Quint has little to no characterization or personality in the book, which makes me appreciate the movie version of Quint even more than I previously did.) Back to the Jurassic Park book and movie. I love both of them with all of my heart, but not in the same ways. The movie is like a wonderland of adventure, while the book are a grim outlook of reality. I’m not trying to say that the movie is kiddy or watered down compared to the book, far from it. What I’m trying to explain are the tones that separate the two apart, and there’s no better character that explains them than John “Santa Claus” Hammond. Movie Hammond is a loving grandpa that you want to give the tightest hug possible to. Inviting his grand kids to his awesome dinosaur zoo to get them away from their parents, who are getting a divorce. Sure he’s not perfect, but at least he learns from his mistakes, taking Ellie’s “you never had control” words to heart. Book Hammond is no where near a loving grandpa, or even a loving person for that matter. He’s a money hungry capitalist, using his grand kids as manipulative tools so his overpriced zoo can be approved. The most defining thing that separates Book Hammond from Movie Hammond is that Book Hammond doesn’t learn a damn thing. Book Hammond believe that it was other people fault that the park went to shit, and that trying to restart on a different park will give him better results. Chaos theory, the problem getting more and more complex as more problems occur, is a big part of both versions. Many things in the park goes unaccounted for, leading to new problems to show themselves left and right. If Book Hammond couldn’t look over all the problems of one park, than who’s to say that he’ll look over the problems of a second or third park? Thankfully he’s killed like the bastard he is before he could add more problems for the world, but it’s too late for the problems that he already did cause. Book Hammond is just as unlikable as book version of the characters in Jaws, but what sets them apart is that Book Hammond had a reason to be unlikable. Book Hammond is supposed to represent how arrogance can lead to the slippery slope of chaos. Movie Hammond lives since he learned not to make the same mistake twice. Book Hammond would have still died for not adapting and moving on, even if he didn’t fall down that slope. As much as I love the lighthearted approach of the movies, the books have some dark yet though provoking themes. I believe these themes deserve to be explored more in a mini series so that it would have more time to shine than they would in a movie.

The Jurassic Park 2 severed hand freaked me the fuck out as a kid. I was and still am a inquisitive person, so when I see a bunch of severed body parts with no logical way they died, it really played on my fear of the unknown. There is still NO WAYS the adult T. rex could have killed the capitan, with her being stuck in the cargo bay and the adult T. rex being so big, if she stuck her head through the door to eat the capitan, it would leave a noticeable dent in the door. Even the Raptor hypothesis doesn’t work, as Ingen was heavily armoured and probably guarded the docks until the boat set sail, so the killer could have only did their thing once they were out to sea… This shit was the ‘Event Horizon’ for my kid brain…

Little tidbit for people. I don't remember the name of it, though I'm unshakeably confident in it being fanmade. I remember around the time of the FNAF craze and clone wave that spawned playing a clone loosely adapted from JP. The whole goal really was to stay holed up in one of the offices long enough for the navy to extract you from the base. Velociraptors took on stand in roles for the rabbit and chicken while the T-rex was Freddys stand in. I don't remember much else about it besides that I played it on the phone after I downloaded it from Gplay, and that It actually scared me for being a clone.

The Monaham JP4 script involved dinosaurs beginning to migrate onto the mainland and InGen forming a team led by Ian and Alan to find out what’s going on. It actually sounds pretty cool and it sucks that it didn’t happen.

I almost forgot about the Fazoli's eggs! I had stumbled upon the eggs as a kid browsing JPToys sometime around 2005, and since there were no Fazoli's near me, my dad found each of the eggs via eBay. Holy shit, I had that Jurassic Park Battles game when I was growing up, I completely forgot what it was called and kinda wondered if it was even real or just some weird fabrication of my mind. I remember there was this other Jurassic Park game that I had that was sort of like a 1/2 player game that involved having a little jeep driving around to various parts of a top down map, and that your character was wearing this weird suit, and that the player characters were green and purple. No idea what it was called but I can't help but think about it every so often.

Great video! There was actually another game that came out around JP3 that I had as a kid. It was called "Jurassic Park: Scan Command", and it seems to be extremely rare with only a couple of copies ever on ebay. Basically, you have a dinosaurs that you use to fight other dinosaurs to capture them. The big gimmick is you raise your dino's levels and stats by using the included scanner to scan UPC codes. Super weird, but it was a ton of fun. I have never met anyone else who had this.

Not sure if the original novel was changed by the time I read it, but Ian Malcom's death there didn't seem certain. It was mentioned off hand at the end of the book that he died to an infection mid-transport IIRC? It was something that could be easily changed with mild excuses, but I'm glad he stuck around. ♥

the evolution of claire is an awesome book! i totally recommend it. it gives a lot of background to the beginnings of jurassic world, and why claire turns into the control obsessed park operations manager. (surprisingly, she starts out wanting to work with the dinosaurs and has always been big on advocating for animal rights.) the formation of the DPG by claire makes even more sense after reading this book and seeing how long she’s been involved in causes like this.

Hey man, I loved that Jurassic Park fighting game 😭🤣 I played the hell out of that. It was pretty fun tbh. Also the learning aspect was pretty cool; they separated the dinosaurs by what Era they lived and gave descriptions. Pretty cool for a dinosaur lover.
