Do you have any info on James Tomanek? JWs will point to his translation that was done in 1958, but I cannot find any info on this person. I can’t find where his scholarly learning came from, if he was a scholar in Greek language, if he based his translation on a previous translation, if he was a Jehovah witness himself, or really anything. It’s even hard to find a copy of his translation online. I did find verses that were said to be his translation online, but not the entire translation. All of the other translations they point to either don’t say what they claim, they use them out of context, or they are translations done by Jehovah witnesses and they are just using circular reasoning. It seems like James Tomanek was a Jehovah witness based on the verses I seen posted of what his translation supposedly says, but I don’t want to say so without knowing for sure. His translation came after theirs so it’s not a huge issue, since they couldn’t have based their translation on a translation that came later but the reverse can be true. When I talk to jws about John 1:1 they like to claim that their translation isn’t the only one that translates it a way similar to theirs. I can go through and show them why they are wrong about that claim with every translation except the Tomanek because I really can’t find anything about this person. I can take them through the Greek and explain why they are wrong also. I’d just like more info on this Tomanek person, he’s like a missing piece in a giant puzzle that I’m nearly finished with. I just think the more info I have the better vessel I can be for GOD. I’d appreciate any info you or anyone has on him, or anywhere I can be pointed to get the info myself. Since Johannes Greber did his translations based off spirit mediums and not the Holy Spirit nor the actual Greek language, why did the JWs use his translation and still use it? Hebrews 1:8 But unto the Son he saith, Thy throne, O GOD, is for ever and ever: a sceptre of righteousness is the sceptre of thy kingdom. This verse is clearly talking about the Son on His throne who is Jesus Christ and this verse clearly calls Him GOD. Isaiah 9:6 For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty GOD, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. Here the verse is talking about the Messiah, the verse calls Him GOD and the everlasting Father. Isaiah 44:6 Thus saith the Lord the King of Israel, and his redeemer the Lord of hosts; I am the first, and I am the last; and beside me there is no God. Revelation 2:8 And unto the angel of the church in Smyrna write; These things saith the first and the last, which was dead, and is alive; In Isaiah 44:6 GOD is saying YHWH is the first and the last, beside Him there is no GOD. In Rev 2:8 Jesus calls Himself the first and the last, explains he died, and is alive. Either you have two firsts and lasts, or you must admit Jesus is calling Himself GOD. If you say Rev 2:8 is about Jehovah you must show a verse where Jehovah died. I can keep going showing many many verses that Jesus is the visible image of the invisible GOD, GOD made flesh. Even up until 1954 JWs worshipped Jesus as GOD, in 1954 they declared it was idolatry. JWs have many huge problems they that flee from. If the Holy Bible was corrupt and nobody knew the Truth until the NWT in 1950 (or 1907 if you go by Berean), then for nearly 2,000 years nobody got saved according to their logic. It also goes against 2 Tim 3:16 and Matt 24:35. If people were saved and the original scrolls and translations of the originals are correct, then why are they changing what was already correct? If they say the originals were correct but in late 1500s they got translated wrong, then they still believe that for hundreds of years nobody got saved since those people didn’t have access to the original manuscripts and a correct translation until at least 1950, and even still were committing idolatry until 1954. Or do JWs now believe that idolaters get into Heaven? Even all the Jws from their start in 1872 until 1954 would be considered idolaters by their logic now. Now I didn’t go through John 1:1 and the Greek itself because this entire video is about that, and I notice you didn’t reply to the creator of the video and ask them anything about the Greek. So I very much doubt you are honestly trying to learn anything about the Greek. It just seems like a terrible appeal to authority fallacy to me. If you want to go through the Greek, Johannes Greber’s translation, this video and the points made in here about the Greek, the current unknown NWT translators, the first few known JW translators, other translations that JWs wrongfully use, and any of the many many verses and problems the JWs have, I’d be glad to talk about them with you. Like I said in my original comment, I just don’t have much info on James Tomanek. It is just as a Christian, the theology and the interpretations is very important. In my own personal perspectives, it’s be easy to befriend them, and as a person you love them. But in a personal man and woman relationship if one of us is Christian, then it’s be very hard to fall in love with someone’s beliefs that you don’t share their beliefs. I would have to try to pull them to what I believe and have them converted if God our Jesus would allow it. I am Premillennial dispensation position. I try to tell people upfront my beliefs systems so as not to deceive them or anyone.

I can discuss biblical topics with you. One question I have is: what does it mean to be “Bible based.” For example, you may say this teaching is based on the Bible. But does that mean it’s taught in the Bible? Catholics might teach that you shouldn’t use birth control and that’s Bible based. Mormons might teach that caffeine is bad and that’s Bible based. But don’t these bible based teaching go beyond the thing written in the bible? Paul said “do not go beyond the things written.” (1 cor 4:6) Shouldn’t we only teach things that are actually taught in the Bible? And if we do that, we would never have to change the teachings.

Why does EVERY ? OH REALLY EVERY BIBLE! Bible say that Jesus is God in Hebrews 1:8 when the New World Translation is the only Bible that says Jesus is a throne? Not every Bible translation says Jesus is God in Hebrews 1:8. Quite a few do NOT say that. (Several are cited below). What Bible translation says Jesus *IS* a throne? NONE that I’m aware of. ALL translations do say however, that God - Jesus’ God - anointed Jesus (to sit on Gods throne - Hebrews 1:9). Hebrews 1:8 - a quote from Psalm 45:6 - are among the most famously debated verses (on grammatical grounds) in the Bible. Hebrews 1:8 Literally: …the-throne-of-you-the-God-into-the-age-of-the-age Psalm 45:6 Literally: …your-throne-God-forever-and-ever Is the correct translation: “Your throne, O God”, or “Your throne is God”, or “God is your throne”? The Context of Psalm 45:6. Who is being addressed? - The newly anointed King Solomon. What is the message the Psalmist is conveying to King Solomon? - That God is the real power or source of Solomon’s Kingdom. ELOHIM (GOD) IN PSALM 45:6 (addresses God - or the King?) Elohim (God) as Vocative (Applied to the King) “Your throne, O God” Elohim (God) as Predicate (Applied to God) “Your throne is God” Elohim (God) as Subject (Applied to God) “God is your throne” If you believe that the Psalmist is addressing King Solomon as the Almighty God then you would choose Vocative - “Your throne, O God”. On the other hand, if you believe the Psalmist is saying to the newly anointed King, Solomon, that “God, your God who anointed you” (Psalm 45:7) is the author or source of Solomon’s throne, then you would render Elohim (God) as the subject: “God is your throne” because it is “God, your God who anointed you” to sit on Gods throne as the King of Gods Kingdom. The context of Hebrews 1 as expressed in Hebrews 1:3 (from Psalm 110:1) is that Jesus Kingly authority was GIVEN to him by his father - “sit at my right hand until I place your enemies as a stool for your feet”. - It is therefore GOD, Jesus God - who is the author of his throne - “God is your throne” - God is the source “of the kingdom God has given you”. The case of the highly regarded Updated American Standard Version by Christian Publishing House illustrates why people are still confused about Hebrews 1:8. The following is their rendition: Psalm 45:6 (UASV): “God is your throne* forever and ever.” *Footnote: “See 1 Chronicles 29:23, where it reads, “Then Solomon sat on the throne of Jehovah as king instead of David his father.” The rendering “Your throne, O God” would hardly make sense being addressed to the king. Further, see the footnote at Hebrews 1:8, which quotes from Psalm 45:6.” Hebrews 1:8 (UASV): “But of the Son he says, “Your throne, O God* is forever and ever,” *Footnote: “Or, based on grammar, context, and Psalm 45:6-7, an alternative reading could be, God is your throne”.

I'm not a JW, and never have been. But clearly this guy doesn't understand the basics of the Hebrew language and how it works (in regard to the no "J" in Hebrew. That is correct. However, 'When used in the International Phonetic Alphabet for the y sound, it may be called yod or jod.' (wikipedia). A Jewish man (Nehemia Gordon; he has videos on YT) that studies ancient manuscripts shows proof that God's name never has been Yahweh, as there is no Biblical documents with it; but also indeed shows where the name Yehovah was there. And Mr. Gordon who also studies the New Testament manuscripts found several NT books of the Bible written in Hebrew, with the name of God in them. Further more, the early Church historian, Eusebius, wrote, 'Matthew compiled the sayings [logia of Christ] in the Hebrew language, and each interpreted them as best he could.' (Eusebius, The Church History, pg. 114, Translation and commentary by Paul L. Maier).

This is the most lame discussion regarding the NWT I have ever viewed. I expected far more research to be presented here and expected the speaker to have been far more educated on the subject. A little knowledge is a dangerous thing, we often say. The speaker says you don't really need to know Greek to present these arguments. But, therein lies the problem - he is clearly way in over his head and doesn't demonstrate an understanding of the Greek language, as it relates to translation work. Nor does he understand how the English form of the divine name developed throughout the years. He is very naive in believing his arguments will "destroy" the arguments for the NWT. He has underestimated the work Jehovah's Witnesses have done in their translation efforts. Regarding the divine name in the Greek Scriptures, the speaker appears to be of the belief that the sole reason for including the divine name in the Greek portion is due to "Old Testament support." That is not entirely true and he should have known better, as he had access to the 2013 edition of the NWT, which contains Appendix A5, outlining a number of reasons why the divine name has been restored in those exact 237 locations, including support in the Hebrew Scriptures. The speaker also appears confused regarding what he perceives as "inconsistencies" regarding when the divine name is used in the Greek Scriptures. Again, if he had examined the appendix (which I'm sure he did, but declined to present it), he would have noted that the ONLY places where the NWT Committee restored the divine name in the Greek Scriptures (“New Testament”) is where it determined that there is compelling evidence that the Tetragrammaton appeared in the original Greek manuscripts (before being removed by scribes in the 2nd and 3rd century). One piece of evidence for the divine name in the Greek Scriptures is the lack of the definite article occurring before Kyʹri·os. Greek has a definite article, but it doesn't always appear before Kyʹri·os, although it should be present for linguistic reasons. Due to this, translators today have had to insert the definite article "the" in the English where it is expected grammatically. Should this be happening?! NO. So, why are there areas in the Greek Scriptures that have Kyʹri·os without the definite article? Simple. Because the divine name used to be in that location, before being replaced with Kyʹri·os. There was no room to add the definite article "ho" in the Greek I never heard the argument that the NWT doesn't contain any bias. All Bibles contain bias. The question we should be asking ourselves is: Which Bible contains the least amount of bias and does the bias it does contain create conflicts with the Bible's overall message? Every scripture must be in harmony with all the others. And, I will say without hesitation that the NWT contains the least amount of bias of any mainstream translation. I say "mainstream" because those are the ones I have studied - the ones you can find on biblehub.com or biblegateway.com, for example. This is what we tell people: please do your research and don’t take anyone’s word for it - not opposers of JWs, not the Watchtower, nor JWs. Study it for yourself and don’t let people do the studying for you. Your very life depends on it!

@@d_e_a_n You err. The Greek word the NT authors used at times, PROSKYNEO, was used for what they did toward God but *also those who were not* and w.o. any form of 'idolatry' being performed. Compare John 4.24 with Revelation 3.9. So it matters not what word one uses, either the Greek or an English one, such as "worship" but what is in the heart and mind that is. The JWs have never 'worshipped' the Son as God just as no 1st century Christian did even though, as stated, the NT used *the same Greek word for God and others not God* . But a Greek word they did use, LATREU, does mean religious worship of one that is God and that word the NT authors never used for what was given the Son but only the Father. See John 4.24b and check a Greek-English lexicon. For only the Father is the "one God" for true Christians. See 1 Cor.8.6; Ephesians 4.6.

But that’s not what I’m talking about. I’m telling about JW, for 70 years, worshiping Jesus. The English word worship. It was in their charter until 1999. There are dozens of quotes about them worshipping Jesus. And it’s understandable. In Hebrews 1:6, it says in your green Bible (an older Bible) that all the angels “worshipped” him. And if the angles were worshipping him it’s reasonable for them to think they should. And did. For 70 years Jehovahs witnesses worshipped Jesus. I could find you all the quotes if you like. There’s like 15 or a couple dozen from watchtowers and books. They definitely worshiped Jesus and felt it was right for decades. And then new light. But this isn’t logical. That today would be called false worship or idolatry by Jw today if someone else did that. And they did this for 70 years. For half their existence I think.

JW know 150-200 scriptures very well. But the other hundred thousand, not so much. For example, they read proverbs 4:18 a lot. Or really a few words from that one scripture. But they never read the rest of the chapter to know what proverbs 4:18 is actually about.
