As an anime only person, HxH felt stuck in time just after the ant arc until just recently. Over the last few weeks I've been binging this guys videos and I never expected the world to be this deep and well realized. I'm really enjoying this journey Togashi wants to take us on. I never considered for a second how far removed and divorced from Gon and Killua this could become.

It's been an extremely long time since Gon has had anything to do in the story. Really several arcs. Gon was a key part of the election arc, but didn't really do anything in the arc. So last time he was center stage was the Ant arc. The beginning of the Election arc was I think 2011, which is also the last anime timeframe. So we've been Gon-less for over a decade.

Well, we're still dealing with the other 2 OG main characters; Kurapika and (kind of) Leorio. Kurapika's hardly been in the story for a very long time, so in a way this is kind of a return to form, to have him as the protagonist for a change for the first time since Yorknew.
