Do you know the conditions Lewis Hamilton drove in when he set his time on your Celebrity Stars board? I'm guessing they weren't too great, but I managed to visit you in July 2016 (would love to go back, really great circuit, hard to find time with living in Japan though) and my best time was 67.722 (avg 68.978) vs Hamilton's 68.980, so it's been bothering me all this time haha

I have pictures of this from when it was being built and was called Daytona racing and used James Hunt as the led name for promotion. I even met him once, when he was already looking rather the worse for wear, albeit with a blonde on his arm as you might expect. A few years later he was dead. I knew it intimately in those days as I designed a computerised car timing system for it's original incarnation. That was based on an American model where anybody could turn up, buy a number of laps, each run as a time trial. Each lap was from a standing start using lights. The cars were open wheel and styled as a sort of mini F1 car. However, they were relatively simple with a solid rear axle and using an automatic clutch and continuously variable belt-driven gearbox. They had rear braking only, and would thus readily spin out if braking was not performed in a straight line. This was all by design to make it tricky. However, that was also a major problem in that a single spin-out would mean activating a circuit long yellow (using lights) and deferring starts until cleared. As the finances were dependent on the number of laps sold, this was a problem. Also, the bespoke cars were not reliable and caused endless problems. It ran for maybe a year or so in this state, but eventually went bankrupt. Later it was revived as the go-kart track we see now. It was an interesting experience for me, and I still have the second, stand-by computer control system for the circuit which is sitting in my garage. I also have a full copy of the documentation for the hardware and software design of the computer systems, all it's peripherals and the operator manual (all written by me). There was, however, a small fibreglass hut in front which is where the operator of the computer system was based and where the customers were allocated their cars and picked up the print out of their lap times.

@ROEDxTzaca4 жыл бұрын
I disagree, for me is the best kart circuit in UK, you can't judge something based only on one bad experience. Granted, I had my share of bad experiences there, but that's life , nothing is perfect, people have bad days, you can get bad luck with the kart if a previous customer managed to almost break it, without the the marshals noticing. There so many things which can go wrong. But if you talk with calm and patience, without being angry, they always did everything they could to fix my problem. Also, indoor you can't drive on a wet track, and that is the most fun you can have in a kart ;)
