The Kastaplast Berg is supposed to be an amazing approach disc, with lots of people praising its look, feel, and performance. It’s made by a company called Kastaplast located in Sweden, and if you’ve never heard of them, you’re not to blame as this company has existed for less than 10 years.
So, there are a lot of people that feel this is currently the best approach disc on the market, whereas others feel it’s a bit overhyped…So which is it? Is it really everything people say it is? Is it truly the greatest approach disc?
Well, we’ve been using the Berg for a few months now, and after some extensive use, we now feel we have an excellent understanding of this disc and would like to share out discoveries with you!
So today on JustDisc, it’s time for an in-depth review of the Kastaplast BERG as well as their plastics. Does it live up to the hype and should you buy one for yourself? You’ll soon find out!

Just played with a guy who is a tank and he was having a bad day. He threw the berg on every hole because it was the only disc he could throw angry and have it still stay in control. So it's an Anger Management disc?

For those wondering, "kastaplast" in swedish means "throw plastic" in english! So when you ask someone to play a round of discgolf with you, you could use a bit of discgolf slang an say "Do you wanna throw some plastic?". Just a funnier way to ask! :)

Bergs are great because they stick on death type approaches, elevated, slopes etc. its funny , i told my kid as I handed him a disc on our weekly round together (hes only 9) he said “berg…again?” I told him, thats the best disc you will ever need! Honesty, it has changed my approach game forever. The confidence of instinctually going to the berg is something i can do without even contemplating. My local dg group knows that im the “berg” guy and yes it is a frozen ham”berg”er but on anything 200ft and in..its my go-to. I recommend everyone try one. Dont be deterred by the unfamiliar thumb track. fh flicks and even backhand approaches..this disc will shave off several shots in your round because of it rarely rolls away on the approach..it sticks!!!! Get one! Great review btw.

I bag a lot of kastaplast and enjoy the berg alot. I even have a mini berg as my mini marker. I've tried putting with it and just can't get consistent. However, thoroughly enjoy for approaches. You didn't mention that if this thing bounces off the basket and starts to roll, it can roll FOREVER. the wide flat rim acts a bit like a monster truck tire and will not tip over, it'll even roll over debris, long grass, branches, etc. This is really the only time i've had issues. For the most part it will nearly always land flat, and can really appreciate the 'thwump' sound it makes when landing. K1 plastic is my favorite of all plastics i've touched. grip is awesome for my hand.

Thank you so much Nick! It’s nice to have such great feedback from a fellow KZbinr. As with most of our videos, a lot of effort is put into the minor details, and we are so glad you noticed ❤️ It’s definitely the best approach disc from 150ft in hands down. My friends and I agree that there is literally no need to use anything else. You can even spin putt little runs at it. It’s outstanding! 🙌

10 minutes of berg review and you didn't mention how great it is for forehands! Such a versatile disc; I throw a k1 soft for 95% of my approaches (still bag my zone though). It's also one of the best golf discs to play catch with due to the fat rim. Great review.

I am probably going to try this disc. The reason being is that I picked up disc golf recently at the age of 50. I don’t have the length off the tee of people so I end up having many approach shots. I use my Mako on a forehand most of time however It would be nice to have an anny option. Throwing the distance of 100 to 125 feet with something like this that will sit as soon as it touches the ground looks ideal !

Here’s why I think a Berg would benefit me. I have had some pretty substantial forearm/wrist injuries in the past, which makes it hurt pretty bad to throw an effective forehand shot. The part of the video where you talked about the Berg holding an anhyzer angle thus really resonated with me. Being constantly afraid of flaring up injury when throwing forehands, knowing that I have a great option when I need my approach disc to turn to the right would be amazing.

Few couple tips for you. The feel of the rim takes getting used to, but you will. Secondly, make sure you are throwing the disc with speed. Don’t baby the approach shots like you do with other discs (very important!) Thirdly, don’t putt with this disc unless you are a heavy duty spin putter. The disc struggles to stay in the air Hope this helps! 👍

The Berg would benefit my game perfectly as I am just entering the stages where I can't simply throw my mid-range for approaches under 200ft. Also, I am really learning the art of the flex shot from a back hand throw and this disc will fill that approach flex spot in my bag perfectly. I currently bag 3 Bergs; K1 Soft for short drives and approaches, a very beat in K3 for longer putts and a new K3 Hard for shorter putts. I love how they just fly straight if I give them some power with almost no fade. They are my go-to approach and putter. I just stay away from them when I need a longer putter drive (Opto Pure) and a flip and turn-over shot (Mirage).

I think this would be a great disc for me because I am always looking for new discs to add. I am a newer player but I love dissecting a disc a finding the right moment for me to use a disc. For example one of the first discs I brought was a dynamic disc felon (9,3,.5,4). I had a hard time throwing it effectively until I was in a perfect position to throw it and I saved par on a hole that I normally get double bogey.

The one way that the berg would benefit me is to open my approach and make it more dynamic (which is the worst part of my game). When I am approaching I usually jump putt (with a magnet or a pure), or throw an aggressive hyzer if I’m further out with a tactic or a deflector. The berg seems to be one of those discs that seems to work if you’re not sure whether to jump putt or throw since it won’t go too far on a throw.
@shibo2319

I used to have that problem with up-shots. I recommend trying to fan-grip (specifically i hold it like a putting grip, but wrap my index finger around the rim so the last joint is on the inside rim) a putter for short upshots (i usually start using it at 90 feet and now i can throw it up to around 200 feet), its a shot that rlly elevated my game. The fangrip allows the disc to rip out of the hand much easier, so you can throw with less power and without griplocks(like what often happens with a power grip). You can also easily fangrip a tactic if you need to throw short shots around corners.

I would love to try the berg for approach shots. Many a times I have gone past the basket with putters that have little to no grip. I personally prefer straight approaches opposed to hyzer shots. I think the berg would be a great addition to my bag, because of the courses here in Tennessee. I could be more aggressive and score a few more points.

I've bagged a berg for the last 2 years and it's a top 3 in my bag from day 1. You can very aggressively run 100-150' shots and if you miss left or right but you're pin high then you only end up with a 15' come back putt because of how slow it is. That disc is an absolute cheat code.
@JacobLikesMusic
@JacobLikesMusic 3 жыл бұрын
A lot of people don't think the Berg is glidey enough for putting but I'm using the k3 Berg for putting. For spin putting I think it's excellent, the grip and confidence is really good. It needs some power to toss it into the basket, but that can be practiced, and I think the great grip helps. Maybe not for push putting I don't know. But the glide difference is not huge on a putt, if you compare the glidiest putter on a 15m (like 45ft) putt you will only gain about 1-2m (3-6ft) compared to the Berg.

I'm definitely on team 'Berg is the best approach disc, period'! One thing to add, is it's a great go to for throwing in wind, as it does not get bullied like other discs. I bag a K1 Soft, though I have the K1 and K3 as well, I just like the soft because it gets less of a reaction with tree hits, which happens plenty on these Colorado courses. Great video! I appreciate that you promoted the disc for its capabilities and not just because it's a unique shape.

My biggest issue with approach shots has been skipping past the basket. I love my overstable approach discs, but the ones I have currently tend to skip pretty well. That’s a good thing sometimes, but I think the Berg might boost my confidence on tighter greens!

The Berg could benefit my game by being the perfect compliment to my Sonic, another speed 1 disc that I use for approaches where I want a soft landing around the basket. However, the Sonic can be inconsistent in the wind and has trouble finishing to the left. I think the Berg would fill this gap perfectly. Keep up the great content!

I really like the Berg for long putts where I want it to land directly into basket or under it. It just works so well for different lines. It’s better than my other putters for hyzer putts where I need slight fade to get around tree or something. Great putter for circle 2 putts.

I love my Berg! I feel I would add several strokes per round without it in my bag. It seems to have a basket sensor and deploys air brakes as it approaches. My son-in-law called it my cheater disc for nearly a year then finally got one of his own. I have on in all the plastics except K1. I'd love to add that blue one in your video to my bag.

Well a Berg would definitely benefit me, because all I have is one putter, an old beat up Aviar from a beginner set I bought like 8 years ago. I can putt ok with it, but I can't anhyzer backhand it around trees toward the basket, as it seems to just want to dump off to the left quickly, which is frustrating.

One of the concerns I have about this disc is the v pinch on the inside of the rim. It sometimes catches my fingertip and throws way offline. Now maybe a hard slick plastic would help with this ad I have a k1 soft. But I agree that this is awesome for longer death throws/putts. This disc tries to sit down quickly

Great review! I putt with a Kastaplast K3 Reko (I now have a K1 Soft Reko), but the K1 Soft Berg is money putting in headwinds. Because of the low glide it heads straight for the chains in a headwind. Other putters float too much so I have to worry about my nose angle. But not with the Berg.

I would benefit from this disc because as a new player, I'm struggling with overpowering my approach shots. I am basically OVER committing and ending up way PAST the basket. Using something like the Berg would help get me closer as it wants to get to the ground. Thanks for the review! I have a buddy that has one and was thinking about getting one. Maybe I won't have to buy it...🤷‍♂️😬

I forehand approaches, often using a Zone. The skips and fades that are too strong are issues I deal with regularly. From your review, it looks like the Berg might avoid both of those issues, especially the K1 Soft to absorb energy when it hits the ground.

Even tho I'm new to disc golf, I've been lucky to find kastaplast discs funny enough from ace runners...the Berg isn't in my bag, but currently throw the Grym, Svea and Falk (absolutely love the Falk) all in K1, and would love to add the Berg to my bag....K1 plastics seem to deflect off trees rather then just hit and drop. I highly recommend Kastaplast discs!

I've been throwing the K1 Berg for almost a year now. I can see why people who try the disc briefly don't like it. You have to use it enough to get used to the minimal glide. But once you do, it's a weapon. Throwing a nose-up anhyzer in that 80-200' range (unless you can putt over 80' or throw the Berg over 200', I can't) allows you to run the basket and have it drop like a rock thereby avoiding long putts. I used the Rhyno in this role for years. The Berg is better IMO.

I've been working on my approach shot with my Judge. It's the same one I use to putt with in the base plastic. I'm finding it hard to get the distance control correct when throwing an approach with it. I either over throw the basket or turn it over. I think this might have something to do with the plastic since I have to do a fan grip for this shot because a power grip just doesn't feel very good in the hand. Would love to give the Berg a shot to fill this spot.
