Every home should have a blood pressure monitor. I didn't get one until after I got sick at age 36 and ended up at the emergency room. If I was monitoring my BP I would've noticed the warning signs. Most blood pressure monitors today connect to apps on your phone and allow you to track trends. Also buy a smart bathroom scale to track your weight. Weight gain or loss can also be early indicators of illness.

Interesting! As a young and middle aged man I always had a low BP but 3 year ago when I was 74 yo ( I’m now 77) I had a major check-up. My sys BP was 165. I did some changes in my diet and started to do more exercise, fast walking ( 3-5 km) almost every day and stated to do some strength training 3 times/week, no medication. I bought my own BP measurement tool (Omron) . After a few months my BP stared to drop. Now it is usually below 120 in the morning and below 135 at noon and in the evening. I did add 3 kg of mass (not fat🙄) due to added training, and I’m now 72 kg with a body length of 180 cm witch is identical to my numbers when I was 18 yo. Just to be sure I will check my BP in the middle of night a few times. (As I sometimes have get up in the middle of night to pee, that should be easy ). Otherwise I’m feeling excellent !

Likely insulin resistance. Check fasting insulin; ideal is under 5. A test is about 14 dollars; no doctor needed.

Absolutely love your video! I just came across your channel and really appreciate the content. I have a quick question, and I hope I can explain it clearly. I take my blood pressure medication at night, right before bedtime. However, I usually wake up and hit the gym within 40 minutes, doing either cardio or HIIT training. There are times when I really struggle to get my heart rate into Zone 2, and I suspect it might be due to my blood pressure medication. Would there be any benefit to taking my medication after my workout instead of before bedtime? My thought is that if I took it after the workout, I’d be as close to my natural state as possible the next morning, since it would have been nearly 24 hours since my last dose. I don’t have any issues remembering to take it, as it’s a regular part of my routine. I’d love to hear your thoughts on whether shifting the timing to after my workout could be beneficial. Thank you!

Night time reading. Position and readings, laying down for night time, but i get no information on a concensus, all i get is information like "for some its higher" Are you saying a night time higher than a 120/80 (and for gods sake can we older people hear a reasonable reading at the same time this normal is told to us). I get so much information and unless its normal or extremely abnormal i get blah blah blah. BP varies alot, with exorcise, position, age, during the week. When its fine we sample infrequently, combine that with general rules, and most of us have no freeking idea what to expect when it starts to vary.

BP meds take time to be effective. I found that Enalapril takes an hour or more to reach its maximum effectiveness. If you take BP readings prior to the maximum effectiveness, you will get variable higher results. I take Enalapril around 8PM and take my BP reading around 10PM. It would be helpful to know the time to maximum effectiveness of a med and how long the med is effective.

Is obstructive sleep apnea a possible reason for elevated nocturnal bp? (Sept 3, 2024)
@lokipokeyАй бұрын
Yes!
@dr.michaellittle56114 ай бұрын
From the symptoms you noted, It seems as though his coronary artery disease is the root cause for his elevated bp. Furthermore, had this been better controlled through diagnostic work up and diet changes, his nocturnal hypertension might not have been present.

I hope you are talking to medical doctors. Or at least say "this video is for people who are taking medication." I had a heart attack. I'm not on medication. I eat a low carb diet and take the vital heart vitamins and Omega-3. High dose vitamin B-1 and magnesium are key also. In the hospital they strap you down with monitors and don't give you anything to help the pain, and the body, get through the hear attack. Here's a YT video for anyone with even an ounce of interest in nutrition. The title is . . . I Went to the ER With Crushing Chest Pain and Discovered the Most Important, Most Commonly Deficient .... long title, but that's it.

Thank you for details! Many videos are so vague. Is it okay to take your blood pressure while lying down on your bed - as long as that is done consistently?
@paulfuelling6829Ай бұрын
Nighttime monitoring is inconsistent, as movement & location of the cuff on the arm will give lower than or higher than nor.al readings. Nighttime taking bp meds does lead to lower overall bp.

bit late to the conversation here - but is there a difference between women and men here as well? I seem to find a awful lot of women labelled as having high blood pressure and on meds for it compared to the men. Yet the women are healthier in lots of other ways! My mum has BP meds. She takes them in the am because they make her trips to the bathroom much more frequent! Having arthritis that means she cant get down the hall fast enough at times! So she opts for the am routine.

I don't think he ever told us: "the best time to take BP is ____" He may have implied to get it checked continuously by buying a device that does that.

1.)Timing of blood pressure checks and medication intake is crucial for health monitoring. 2.)Unexpected heart attacks can occur even in individuals with no apparent risk factors. 3.)Nighttime systolic blood pressure is a strong predictor of all-cause mortality and cardiovascular death. 4.)It is six times more informative for mortality risk than daytime blood pressure measured at a clinic. 5.(Nighttime blood pressure monitoring is crucial for assessing health risks related to high blood pressure. 6.)Taking blood pressure medication at bedtime improves control and reduces cardiovascular risk. 7.)Normal blood pressure dip during sleep is essential for cardiovascular health. 8.)Chronic high nighttime blood pressure can lead to cardiovascular complications.
