I’m ✨neurospicy✨ and have dealt with a ton of procrastination, perfectionism and self-doubt. Always feeling like I should have done more + better. My favourite quote ever is from Adventure Time of all places, and it is: “Dude, sucking at something is the first step toward being sorta good at something.” So when I feel like I’m not doing something so great, I just remind myself that by doing it at all, I’m going down that road toward my goal. 💕

This video means a lot to me. I've always wanted to pursue art. My mother just told me to my face that "you don't have the talent for it, there are many artists in this world and you can't compete with them." It broke my heart into a million little pieces. Now I'm done studying finance and accounting and I absolutely hate numbers. I'm going to go job hunting in this field. But this video, gave me a small hope, maybe just maybe... I'll be able to pull this off.
@PorterWood096 ай бұрын
Hey, I truly get you. The finance classes when math isn’t fun… When the artist wants to be released like a genie trapped in a bottle. But think of it this way maybe…What if you do the accounting/finance/business? It’ll be there when you need to use it for your art business. If you have a finance job already lined up, take it, work it and learn all you can. Meanwhile, do your art. Work your craft on the side with no pressure. Play and experience. Then you can bring your talents together when you’re more experienced in both. You got this.

I also still struggle with perfectionism as an artist and I’m in my 40’s! I lean into it now and think that’s why I chose collage as my medium - I can move around the paper before gluing it and also cover parts I don’t like with paper. Just keep creating and don’t put expectations on your art. 😊

Thank you, Tammy. Your video helps a lot. I've insecure for aa long as I can remember. I'm in my mid thirties and it's been only a few weeks since I had the courage to set up a shop. I really need to have faith and not give up. I never thought about being someone else or being an imposter. I've played and studied music for a long time and I even have a bachelor's degree in it. And you made me realise I was trying to be someone I could never really become. I genuinely think I was born to create and to make art. So thanks again. This helps me to continue on the path that feels like 'me'. ❤

At 3:48 I thought you were suddenly holding a wig hahaha... But thank you so much. I really needed to hear this. Growing up, I had always loved drawing and designing clothes and thinking I was going to be in the fashion industry making designs. Or animation. Or just... anything to do with drawing. But I had never been confident of my art. I really wonder what would have happened if I didn't waste all these years. I'm 31 now, and haven't touched a pencil for close to 18 years.... this is the wake up call that I needed. Thank you.

I am 15, and I before I have never thought that art could be an option for my career. However, I have always been doing art here and there in my life. So, one day I just had this idea to make a manwha. I soon realised that I lack the confidence and the strength in my ideas to push me to draw something unique for a long period of time. I have been struggling with accepting my own art, although I love doing it. My confidence comes in rare bursts, and ends just as fast. This video helped inspire me, so I might just as well pick up my pencil and try to enjoy art once again.

Never clicked so fast. 😭💕 When I finally had the courage to make art for my living, two months into my business, the pandemic hit me and tore me apart. It didn’t even left a crumb of self esteem. Somehow, it killed the core, and getting back on my feet is unbearably hard. To the point I talk myself into actually not being capable of creating something likable at all. Yet… I’m an artist. Like, my whole life long I was creating all sorts of art. Thank you, Tammy. Slowly, but surely, I’ll make my steps to be friends with my creative self again.

Thanks for this sweet video Tammy 💜I opened my shop for creative decorative items (3D-printed) yesterday and I know it's stupid, but I was kind of discouraged about whether I'll succeed, lost a little confidence. For me it was the other way around. As a teenager I was quite confident in my art and was drawing all the time, but after artschool my motivation kinda dropped lol I think it's because I became more aware of my "competition" and the great stuff others make. It was so weird, because I've never really compared myself to anyone and I am also not dragging myself down or even thinking about it. It's just there, a feeling of discouragement... I can imagine it's very hard to get away from this mindset once you're really in. Only compare yourself to your past self and old creations to see how far you've come!

Thank you for this video... I needed to hear it. I am currently in that state of non-movement because of my negative self worth. So much so that I am struggling to get to the point of getting through it and just trying. I have always put art on the back burner because of what everyone in my life has told me, it wouldn't be stable, I wouldn't make money with it. Now that I am older I have to bat away those thoughts, I am in a stable place where I am encouraged to do what I want, if I just try. Thank you for making yourself uncomfortable, making the voices in our heads be reminded that it isn't true. Just truly try.

I studied graphic design but been all over the place (programming, 3d) because in graphic design I never got a good job. Now I'm 36 and luckily, a few years ago, I started drawing again and a few months ago I realised this is what I really want to do, instead of focusing in studying something that supposedly makes you make money fast. Still, One of the problems I always run into is starting a projects/drawing because I still feel there's lots to learn. This video is the answer to that feeling.

Tammy, This is really sweet and helpful video on tips. I wish when I started running a small business I did a lot of things differently. It takes a lot of hard work and it's like having multiple jobs in one. Being the creative side as making items and also being the photographer, social media person, and taking time to have breaks with health etc. It's a lot managing a small business solo. I'd say with anyone being new to starting: Take time to really make sure its what they want to do. Because it can burn someone out very fast.With being the editor, photographer, running a website, packaging, inventory,making items, hours on making items. It can be exhausting for anyone at any step of the journey. But taking the leap was the best decision. Because at the end of the day. It gives me pure joy! seeing someone be able to have art made by and artist. 🎨All the hard work is always a plus. I enjoy being apart of your channel Uncomfy. 🧸🌈💖

Last week I felt extremely sad about my goals, especially about my dream job ( Physicist ) after seeing tones of videos about talented people, who were "gifted" with the ability to do the best results from the first try, applying to uni at teenage etc. I stopped validating my dreams because of knowing that, comparing to them, my skills are miserable😭 Same with my art. Seeing so much talanted people already using "all the ideas" and being successful, made me think that my art wouldn't be unique and interesting to others at all. You and your videos make me feel not only extremely comfortable and cozy, but supported and, in some way, protected from this condemnation and pressure of bad thoughts. Hey Tammy. I agree with the thing about comparison but just wanted to say that I compare to see if I'm hitting a quality target. For example if I do a vocal take, some words are really loud and some soft. So for me to see whether my vocal is level to a universal level, I'd have to play a song from a big artist e.g. Lauv. But I must admit though that comparing my music to others' has kept me back sometimes

I've never had a problem with motivation, it's just that all the external circumstances have led to the fact that I just need to work and it's become a problem. It's like I'm not doing something I love to do but a punishment, this manifested itself recently when my dad belittled everything I do so much that I couldn't go near a tablet for over a month and now I still feel less like doing it than before. It's like all this time I've been trying to convince those around me that what I'm doing is okay, but not myself, and when external factors reminded me of that, everything collapsed and now I won't be able to start moving again like I used to, but I don't know the new route yet either

Great video, really good advice and encouragement. Something that helps me is looking back at my work over the years to reflect on what I've made and learned. It's easy to get lost in the day-to-day and not really observe your growth and accomplishments. Related, make sure to celebrate your wins instead of immediately moving onto the next goal/project/whatever with this thought that you'll have fun once you "make it". There's always the next thing, so enjoy the process.

Great video Tammy! Hopefully some younger artists will not get too discouraged about art. I know it can be hard sometimes but you and a handful of other creatives leave inspiring messages. We need this.

Thank you, it was truly inspiring. 🌸Could I request a video about finding your unique style as an artist? Specifically, how you create your main characters and what inspires you to develop your distinctive style. It would be incredibly helpful, as I’m currently stuck at this stage due to overthinking. Sending you all lots of love. 🫶🏾
