The LA Clippers are going to have to finish the series without Kawhi Leonard. It will require Paul George and James Harden to play at an extremely high level and the other guys to bat above their average.

_T-MANN, aka "Anti-Stat."_ This might be the greatest defensive work over a 4-game stretch that I've seen in which the player has _yet to register a single_ Steal or Block. And yeah, Russ is imo the huge-est X factor in the game for L.A.. When he plays well the Clippers tend to win games much more easily.

@@shaft9000so true. It’s obvious to me now after watching Terrence Mann for a whole season why the clippers didn’t want to trade him in the harden package. So happy the clippers never gave in because he’s very underrated in offense and defense. Russ is also playing great as the primary defender. Insane how he grew his defensive side of the game so late in his career when most people get significantly worse by year 12 or 13

@@andreslancheros2863 Yessir, good that it doesn't go unnoticed. Way too many stat-heads fixate on the same 3 columns and think that it tells them how well someone plays defense. Horse shizzla. Frustrating at times because we've known for years that if you put Terance on most other teams in the league he's getting another 12+ min a night and his opportunities to score and impact the game increases dramatically. He _needs_ to get a chip here as madly and badly as anyone else on this team, or else he'll be the first guy in years who _wants_ to leave _(maybe with the exception of Mookie-Dooky Morris)._ Russ is like the business partner who can get sh(t done like no other IF and when he's in his right mind...and of course, _fun rules_ Russ' world. However at seemingly any moment Russ can catch a tripwire that can throw his entire effort cock-eyed for stretch(es).

I think Lue's scared of lack of size. Same way Dante Exum can barely smell the court after a productive season - it's a bad matchup.

Yea, i heard Big Zu say that the coaches have a specific plan that they believe will work. He didn't go into specifics of course so i will assume the coaches found something on film and that's why they are keeping a big on the floor at all times. There could also be some analytic data they saw in terms of offensive rebounding advantages when teams try to match small vs small with The Mavericks? They are super athletic and maybe they are dominating second chance points vs small ball lineups? We don't have the same information in front of us that they do and we certainly have not done film breakdowns. I would like to see Theis added to the big rotation the same way Coach Kidd is adding some Kleber at the five minutes but let's see how game five plays out...

theis cannot take the lob from harden and finish. Plumlee does that and Zubac is the best at it. If they play a big team like TWolves that the clippers want to drag a dominant big man away from the lane area, theis is a better choice than plumlee. But the clippers have rebounding issues as they have no PF.

Terance Mann defense on Luka has been the biggest reason we are tied for sure. PG and Harden found something in game 4. Derrick Jones can’t guard PG , PJ cant guard Harden that will carry on tonight game 5. The Clippers need to now key in on Kyrie out the gate and Zubac needs to be getting fed early and often like game 1. All of the momentum is with the Clippers but the Mavericks will come out swinging for sure.

I think the rebounding is the main reason Plumlee is in over Theis. Theis is a better shooter and probably a better slot blocker and man defender but Plumlee averages 12.5 TRB per 36 mins, Theis only averages 8.7. Luka is better than he was in the previous series vs the Clips but he's heavier and I don't think his conditioning is as good. Keep tiring him out, he looks exhausted.

Yes. Theis is clearly more skilled and versatile all-around, but there is no stretch 4 or 5 to guard on Dallas except Klieber some of the time. Plumlee seems to have upped the grit-level in his game over the last month. Dallas is playing emotional and trying to scrap out any physical edge they can get.

I think you are right. I heard an interview with Big Zu and without saying it outright, he was basically saying the staff has identified a strategy they believe will give The Clippers the edge. I think that strategy is staying big no matter the adjustments by The Mavericks. Not overreacting to their small ball changeups.... I have some reservations and concerns about this sort of stubbornness and faith in strategy but it worked in the non Kawhi games. So was it just Kawhi that brought the team down or does Coach Lue need to adjust his strategy a bit? I'm not sure. I believe he needs to adjust his strategy a bit. I would add Theis to the rotation and play Zu, Plum, and Theis....but let's see tonight's game.... Still three to play so a loss isn't devastating....

@@sammyslam1 Good points. I think Ty Lue will never be content to just stick with a strategy stubbornly. Theis could be an interesting curveball to throw out but it'd have to be just the right situation. I think if the Clips can win the series, I'd expect Theis to play a little more against OKC fore the spacing and perimeter advantages.

@@sammyslam1 Kawhi was looking awfully slow out there lately. Too slow to start games against smaller teams, and he might sit out the potential OKC series, too. _Maybe_ he can be more effective off the bench vs/ bigger teams as games and a series grinds down in pace, but many star players and/or coaches don't like to sub in so late and/or with consistently limited minutes. I think he'd _have to,_ though, at least if we hope to get efficient and effective play from Kawhi this post-season. Or maybe I'm wrong and his inflammation _somehow_ vanishes sooner than later, and he can play again at 85%+ in under a week (ha! right...) but I'm not holding my breath foe that.

Let's hope he improves the defense tonight though. He hasn't been good on that end but he is on fire from deep and if Coach Lue would mix in some small ball while Norm is on the floor, i think he would also be able to mix in some of those fantastic drives to the hoop. The small ball idea is not so much about creating separation because the best defenders won't be on the floor and no rim protector, it's about trying to match point for point when The Mavs are going small against big and winning those minutes big time.... Spread them out! Give Theis some minutes....

The key was that PG was not guarding Luka or Kyrie so he had a lot of gas in the tank to play offense, great move by Lue.

Do you think the series would look any different based on the 4 games not just if kawhi was playing but if George n Powell don’t get off to such a rough start to begin the series?.. And that Powells production swings the pendulum in the Clips favor? Also I personally hate players bringing up injuries during the playoffs.. if your on the court u free game. Plus I feel u premeditated an excuse for your play n potentially losing this series.

we need game 5 paul george to outweigh the classic clippers meltdown , also those 3rd quarter kyrie takeovers need to be contained, i believe game 5 will go to the clippers and the maverickkks will be so demoralized that game 6 wont even be close ; these clearly aren't the same teams that met before, 1 team looks overrated the other looks hungry, ill let everyone decide who is who

@@hanspatmpouma1183 yep. You were right. Luka finally had a great game. And PG was absolute garbage. Played the game like a role player who’s stars were on the bench. My guess is he’ll have a really good game because there’s less pressure but mavs will still probably win

Only consistent trouble from Dallas so far has been Kyrie. Luka is hurt and leading both teams in Turnovers while shooting poor %s on high volume, and becomes a target on D. The rest of the trouble was largely from Ty Lue not evaluating Klaw's conditioning correctly by _starting_ him, and some referee "trouble" in particular stretches.

I understand his philosophy of keeping a big on the floor, it is definitely helping the defense but man i would like to see Coach Lue adjust to the small ball adjustment from Coach Kidd..... The team can't keep playing with fire, losing huge leads against talented scorers like Luka and Kyrie.... I get it, the rotation for this series has been decided: Big Zu, Coffey, PG, Mann, Harden, Norm, Russ, and Plumlee.....i just think even as a change up, just add some Daniel Theis minutes into the mix and expand the rotation by one player.... This could force Derek Lively and Maxi Kleber(the two bigs giving us the most problems defensively) to come out and guard on the perimeter, allowing more drive potential for The Clippers ball handlers(in particular T Mann, Russ, and Norm) I will say that Mason Plumlee has been a net positive in the two games Kawhi did not play, so i am definitely not going to say he hasn't helped. He was a +4 in game one, a win and a +12(team high) in game four(a huge win) So my solution is to match the 3 headed center rotation Coach Kidd is using.... Play Zu, Plum, and Theis...... I would like to see a Theis, Coffey, PG, Mann or Norm, and Russ lineup for a few minutes in the 2nd qtr and 3rd qtr...... Match speed with speed. Anyway, other than the 2 sluggish Kawhi games, the two teams don't really look that close in my opinion unless one wants to consider the hustle, scramble, and tenacity of the team that got down big in games one and four. To be honest i don't. No disrespect to Coach Kidd, Luka, Kyrie, and The Mavs but i really do see these comebacks more as an indictment of Coach Lue's stubbornness and faith in his strategy...... I'm not actually sure a counter attack would even work when the other team is just playing harder and more desperate but man i would like to at least see Coach Lue make some type of move, especially when things are clearly falling apart. Calling timeouts and calming the guys down just doesn't seem to be working and it took a miraculous shot from PG to help change the momentum in the last game(and then a complete takeover masterpiece from Harden with those consecutive floaters, pure brilliance!) Tonight's game i believe is a statement game for PG and Harden..... They both want to be Clippers next season and both want to be paid north of $45 mil...... This is how they can move towards earning that sort of payday from Mr Balmer, in my view. Get to 3-2 and take your chances in games 6 and 7.... I don't love going to Dallas down 2-3 but for those who may believe it would be over, check The Clippers road record. The Clippers can still win in Dallas down 2-3 but not an optimal situation for sure.

@@brxndaveli5834 i think this series is super wierd. first gane mavs shot horrible and clipps win easily. second game clipps shot terrible and mavs won only by 3. but then clipps get destroyed in game 3 and need a 30 point lead to close game 4 by 5 points. therefore i think its completely unpredictable...

Of course we are concerned. To be unconcerned is to be naive and in the midst of a delusional false-confidence. Losing a lead vs _losing the game_ are entirely different junctures of a game. One can be reversed with counters, the other cannot and is _finito._ Over. Dallas lost.
