Again, this video is not about all of India's history. This was about the history and current situation with the Sikh diaspora and the Sikh minority in India. Your lack of proper research and casual indifference to the Sikh community's long-standing trauma were noted. You say you did not want to dig up past wounds - yes, you have. Why was proper research not done for this video? You think you did justice to the 1984 genocide and subsequent disappearances/killings? Can there be TRUE reconciliation without acknowledging the wrongdoings of the past? Look at your comment section and look at the Sikhs stating that they do not want Khalistan and expressing their pride and love for India ... and then look at the anti-Sikh comments. This is precisely what your video has furthered - an anti-Sikh agenda. This is what happens when you gloss over the shitty parts of our history and you have participated in this.

1984 anti sikh Riots were Genocide by the government not Roits for which except court cases no punishment has been given, which actually triggers all these kind of issues but widely 95% Sikhs wants justice for themselves not Khalistan. Every Sikh and every Punjabi wants beautiful peaceful Punjab where Hindus and Sikhs have always lived like brothers. With due respect, Bhindranwale never asked for seperate Khalistan . He asked for Anandpur sahib resolution to be implemented. He only said if you want to seperate Punjab then it's okay but he didn't ask for Khalistan. Nor any sikh in current India wants Khalistan

Also, no trial was against Nirankaris and Nirankari baba got safe passage to Delhi by police after massacre. This incident created unrest in Sikh leadership. I do not support Khalistan, but your research on Sikhism and Punjab’s history seems lacking. I recommend spending some time in Punjab, visiting villages, and speaking with Punjabi Sikhs to understand Punjab’s issues since 1947. This could give you the insight needed to make a more informed video.

Just 1 minute into the video and there's already glaring errors: Jarnail Singh Bhindrawale never demanded Khalistan. Neither was the pre 1984 turmoil was related to separatism. His demand was for Anandpur Sahib Resolution which demanded greater federal structure (to which the delhi government agreed and back flipped several times). Separatism actually emerged AFTER the Darbar Sahib attack because Sikhs were deeply hurt and the attack validated the stand of separatist micro minority that existed since 1947. Pre 84 there were Hindu Mahasabha and it's proxies trying their best to create a communal environment in Punjab (just how they are doing with Muslims). This is oversimplification over a very complex subject and a very complex personality. I urge you to reach out to regional reporters from that era and read more books. (e.g. Jagtar Singh) i am a long term viewer and generally enjoy your content. Please continue with your work.

Asking for "greater federalism" challenges the overarching centre . It used to be the norms last to last century for empires some regions had their own dominions.. but modern countries cannot survive much with large part of its land being a dominion out of the union. Kashmir was such and if that referendum or whatever you call that was followed every state would have asked for their kind of autonomy and that would have very much weakened the overarching central powers. So therefore to suit the modern times need for strong centre for strong nation its government cannot just let every part of to be ruled by its own and to retain this strength by crushing ANY VOICE THAT DEMANDS AUTONOMY IS CLOSE TO ASKING FOR DOMINION IS VERY MUCH CLOSE TO ASK FOR SEPARATION.

Nowadays, their are paddy season going on but Center government and Punjab Government are not lifting the paddy. Why Farmers have to protest every time? Some farmers are on haryana border. They are struggling to get their actual rights. If you genuinely want to know about please read more about what’s going on their. Next one is about killing, why the punjabi youngsters are killed nowadays. For example, You know about Sidhu Moosewala the legend singer. Why his parents are not getting justice even know who killed him. Are you guys aware of that? Third the disrespect of Shiri Guru Granth Sahib Ji is increasing day by day. No body support Punjab and sikhs on these factors. So if we say about all these things everybody called us Khalistani.

Now the question is what is nation and nationality? A nation is a society that shares a common language, culture, and history and has shared interests. These regions have their own nationalities and languages. Hindustani is a nationality in western Uttar pradesh with Hindustani as native language). Most of Hindus in Indian subcontinent prefer religion over their nationalities unlike muslims (Kashmiri, Bangla, Baluch, Sindhi, Pashto) who identify themselves with their nationalities and even support nation states like Bangladesh. According to research, Higher ethnic or national diversity within a country negatively affects economic growth through conflict between interests of various nations or ethnicities (Don't confuse the ethnic or national diversity with the multiculturalism in west due to migration, the migrants mix with diverse society and become part of nationality of the host country and work for the interests of the dominant nationality). High nationality or ethnic Diversity correlates with low GDP per capita. Strong democracy correlates with ethnic or national homogeneity. Punjab and Kashmir should be a free countries based on Punjabi and Kashmiri nationalities like Bangladesh. But Hindu Punjabis, Hindu Kashmiris and Muslims punjabi don't want to leave india and Pakistan, so we Punjabi Sikhs, or Kashmiri muslims can't force them to follow us. Hindu Punjabis, who had deserted Punjabi language in 1951 and 1961 census by declaring Hindi as their mother tongue would never support a Punjabi nation state. They support a Indian state based on the Hindu religion. Similarly, Punjabi Muslims of Pakistan dont support Punjabi nation state either. They support Pakistan state that is based on Islam religion. Similarly, Bengali Hindus and Kashmiri Hindus don't support Bangla nation state Bangladesh and Azad Kashmir and want to live in India which is based on Hinduism. So Punjabi muslims, Punjabi Hindus, Kashmiri Hindus and Bengali Hindus are free to stay in their respective countries based on religions. But similar to Bangla Muslims of East Pakistan, who created Bangla nation state Bangladesh without Indian Bengali Hindus, Sikhs have the right to create Azad Punjab (a Punjabi nation state) without Punjabi Hindus and Punjabi Muslims (and Azad Kashmir without Kashmiri Hindus). As simple as that. We Punjabi Sikhs have no problem living in a Punjabi Muslims or Punjabi Hindu majority Punjabi nation state but they don't support nation state unlike modern civilised world but a state based on religion. The Punjabi speaker population of Muslims is around 10 crore. Punjabi speaking population of Hindus is around 3 crore (Punjabi Hindus in Punjab, Himchal, Haryana, Jammu and Delhi). Punjabi speaker Sikh population is around 2 crore. Hence Sikhs would be minority if both Punjabi muslims and Hindus or either one of them come form a Punjabi nation state with us Sikhs. We Sikhs have no problem living as minority in Punjabi nation state among majority Punjabi muslims and Punjabi Hindus, But their radicals minds prefer religion over their nationality and they love to give up their Punjabi nationality and adopt Hindi and Urdu nationality in order to create a state based on their respective religions. So when Sikhs alone form a Punjabi nation state, it would automatically be a Sikh majority Punjabi nation state called Khalistan. What's in the name? We are open to change the name and keep it Punjab instead of Khalistan and also write the word secular state in constitution because it wouldn't change anything in practice. In practice it would still be Khalistan just like India is a Hindu rashtra in practice regardless of its official name or regardless of its constitution.. Also Hindus in 1952 officially denied Punjabi as their language so no Hindu can claim to be Punjabi. 1984 and what Hindus did, everyone says it’s congress party but reality it’s Hindus because they know the truth of how they stole freedom from Sikhs. Yet you without knowing any wrote as a Sikh I want want to see this country prosper, you are just as much of a Sikh as master Tara Singh was who put this struggle into the lives of every Sikh.

Well it’s your lack of knowledge on history, India is not Sikhs country, Sikhs never agreed to be part of India, if Hindus deserve their own country after giving less than 10% sacrifices, Sikhs deserves their Punjab as their own country, like it was, as they have given 90% sacrifices, the Sikh who represented Sikhs/punjab in 1947 was in reality a Hindu, search it, master Tara Singh was actually Hindu, his real surname was malhotra, he obviously was okay to split Punjab into two parts and got fake promises of self sovereign state, when Sikhs found out they retaliated and to this day never signed Indian constitution. So how can this be Sikhs country? This is the reason why I am against Hindus becoming Sikhs and or marrying into Sikh families. He being Hindu decided the fate of Sikhs, and countless Sikhs died because of his stupidity.

Akash - you are wrong about the Nov 3 incident in Canada. It was not an attack on Hindu devotees or Hindu community as is widely being reported in the media. There were protesters from both communities outside the temple raising provocative slogans. This was planned. The Hindu group had bhagwa flags and the khalistanis had their own. Both groups start getting close to each other. Someone throws a fist and it erupts into a street fight. Some Hindu protestors ran into the temple and some. Khalistanis followed them with flag sticks. So what was a clash between 2 groups is being termed as an attack on Hindu temple, which it wasn't.

Askash, one thing you said wrong in this video. 1984 was a Genocide not riots, the Delhi High Court has also accepted this. There are clear evidences of Government involvement including the PM Rajiv Gandhi’s. No justice has been given till date, giving a message that justice has to be forcefully delivered.

I typically agree and align with much of what you share and often share your channel with those around me to get an unbiased perspective. While I agree with many things you have said in this video, you have very casually glossed over the actual trauma and the genocide that Sikhs have faced in India. It's this very casual indifference that has led to intergenerational trauma for many Sikh families. You do realize that many Sikhs fleed India to avoid your easily glossed over 'police justice' or '1984 riots' - these people saw their families killed, their mother/wives/daughter raped ... they barely escaped the atrocities themselves. Following the genocide, there were several disappearances of young Sikh men in Punjab. This diaspora retained these hurt feelings, this gross injustice, this undeniable betrayal by their own country and passed these feelings down generation after generation - this, my friend, is how trauma works. How can you call what happened in 1984 a 'riot' when it was one-sidedly organized by the government and attacked specific areas where Sikh communities lived in Delhi? Do you have any idea how many actual Sikhs were tortured and murdered in the 1980s? The numbers are grossly underreported. How can you have a much-needed discussion on Khalistan (I am a Sikh, and I oppose Khalistan) without truly accepting and apologizing for the Sikh genocide? I am so disappointed with your coverage on this truly complex and sensitive matter. This seemed more like a "we have suffered as well" instead of actually highlighting the trauma that the innocent Sikh community in Delhi and Punjab faced in the 1980s. You can not ask people to get over their lived trauma without properly addressing or apologizing for it. You really needed to do more research before producing this video instead of trying to get on the "what will tick" bandwagon and clickbaity title of Khalistan. - from a disappointed and hurt viewer.

What do you think will be the resolution for this khalistani issue, bcoz I see kashmiri hindus also faced a similar horror in 1990s but no voice of separation or anti India sentiments ever came from them. On the other side khalistan movement always gets defended by the trauma of 84. How long do you guys plan to play this card, this gets more complex when we see the love for Congress in punjab and now the separatist amritpal wining heavily by 2 lakh vote margin. Also why don't we see similar demand of separate khalistan in Pakistan side. The Sikhs need to address what image they are portraying.

Amritpal and others like him win because punajbis (not just Sikhs ) have been struggling to be heard by center since 47. No matter what Punjabis ask for , center always treats it with closed eyes and closed ears. Punjabis have this strong feeling of being treated as step children and ignored by the government. Punjabis have always been on the forefront of all movements and struggles for the country but has the country (politicians ) always treated Punjab equally well? Punjabis have always felt pride in India but India has always taken Punjab and Punjabis for granted. Things were getting better but then this govt came and decided to scratch old wounds. Water was hi jacked by Indira Gandhi govt , land before that and now they feel that modi is hi jacking the farming and culture by bringing corporates. So it’s a deep sense of resentment and unheard concerns that makes people drive away from the government.

The fight was for the rights that were promised, whole generation of Sikh were killed for no reason, Mr.Khalra was also killed for investigating, Shubeg Singh was falsely accused which made him switch sides. Just to let everybody know that Bhindran wala was never in the favour of separate state he just wanted the Anandpur sahib resolution, once you read that you get to know the demands weren’t separatists but were for the well being of us. And also the army was already in the Darbar sahib complex by 1st june. Making things more clear the devotees in the complex were never used as hostages. Also talking about the fight in Brampton was ignited by the so called “patriots” living out of their own country. Things never remain the same once you try n get to the roots, i have talked to so many of my relatives who have been the part of the movement, my father himself have been to Bhindran Wala and he say he had a great vision. And we know here in India somebody with great vision is never supported by the government. And also why the people in jail since 1984 haven’t been released it have been more the 40 years.

The situation was different during freedom struggle actually it was same rebellion against Britishers to stop economic exploitation against Indians . The whole episode brought back the painful memories of the dark age which we people in Punjab had to endure and virtually brought tears in my eyes . Being a sikh , I will say that your narration of events is very well researched and a true explanation of the said period . There is hardly any one who talks about khalistan in Punjab , leave aside having any sympathy for this movement. Even people have forgotten about Anand sahib's resolution . It was quite shocking that Amrit pal singh won elections , but see the bright light , he has been in jail since then in Assam and not a single person or agitation has raised the voice for his release . He got votes as farmers are really sick of BJP. Farmers in Punjab are so discontented and so frustrated of Modi govt, that they feel the BJP is anti sikh and just bent on destroying them . After farm laws , again this season , paddy is.rotting in Mandi's and govt is not picking up . First rice millers refused to pick up saying FCI has refused becoz there is no space in godowns . Then they keep on rejecting paddy frivously on the ground of having more moisture and now.there is an acute shortage of fertilisers which is sent by govt on subsidised rates .The season of sowing is passing and they are forced to buy fertilizer at four times more, in black . For the last two months again farmers are agitating and they feel BJP is taking revenge for forcing them to repeal the farm laws . Govt should be sensitive to handle the issues of punjab as it is a border state and , there are so many elements which can exploit the extreme frustration of the farmers . Govt of. India and Canada should handle these things diplomatically in sobre manner and explore the possibility of entering into an extradition treaty so that militants who are engaged in threats and violence can be extradited instead of murdering them abroad .

One important point you forgot to mention that is the legal identification of Sikhs in India. Sikhs always complain that article 25B of the constitution consider Sikhs as an offshoot of Hinduism not as a separate religion. Why not consider them as a separate religion and amend the constitution, just grant their request when they dont want to be a part of Hinduism.
