I like how Simon is direct, concise, informative. A lot of videos have personal commentary/opinions, and are too stylized, but Simon charges right for the meat on the bone.

well patricia that is a very interesting line. i think objectively there are better moves (like 10. Ne2) - but the 10. Kd1 line is great for surprise value and taking your opponent out of his preparation. Cheers!

After playing in a tournament getting 2.5 out of 5 games, and losing two games largely because of not knowing the opening I am now thinking of the opening as more important and am happy to watch videos like this.

I don't know why I haven't looked at the french defense. I always have problems against it when playing white, so it makes sense to consider it as a nice weapon when I play black.

Thanks for the video Simon! I purchased dvd nr. 2 of your "Killer French". When I play white I often shock French players with the brutal Euwe variation! 1.e4 e6 2.d4 d5 3.Nc3 Bb4 4.e5 c5 5.a3 Bxc3+ 6.bxc3 Ne7 7.Qg4 Qc7 8.Qxg7 Rg8 9.Qxh7 cxd4 10.Kd1!? I love how Tal crushed Botvinnik with it in game 1 of their 1st World Championship match. I think you need a Killer French dvd nr. 3 for that! What's your take on this line?

Hi. I purchased the two DVd's by simon & I have always heard there are 4 main 3rd moves - the 4th being exd5 - the exchange variation!! where would I locate DVD's that cover that material French variations that Simon left out?? Thank You. Very Sincerely, JAMES.
@stevejones30088 жыл бұрын
So you had to buy two DVD's seperately?? And it still doesn't cover everything? That seems a bit slippery..
@matthewbrown34207 жыл бұрын
Yes I agree, generally a great DVD. The biggest let down was indeed the French exchange variation. No Queenside Castling ideas here, except in the Winawer version of the exchange variation. He says he can't understand the psychology of a White player playing the French exchange variation. This is nonsense, because if White immediately follows with C4, it is very exciting indeed for both sides. Not really the way to talk about people who play something he doesn't like. Trust me, if you play as White the French exchange because you are playing for a win and not a draw, take no notice of this remark.
@saed198712 жыл бұрын
@ 5:32 it's wrong to play Bxc5.. because white will play Qg4 the better move is Nc6
he says there are 3 variations on the 3rd move for white.. but he didn't mention the exchange variation
