Ronnie Vanucci is one of my all time favorite drummers. His performance on this album is my all-time favorite. He doesn’t do anything way too difficult but everything is so tight and he transitions between half, quarter, and 16th notes so seamlessly. The accenting fills are simple and never come over the top but they always catch your ear

I usually like harder rock and metal music; but there was something about the Killers sound back during this time that I cannot resist. Great melding of 80’s style pop with rock.👍. Lyrics are great too - especially in context of the rest of the album. (He killed Jenny, was arrested; trying to convince the police he didn’t. - see Mr Brightside for his motive)

Killers made a killer hot fuss album. Other songs worth listening to Smile like you mean it, When you where young, Human, Somebody told me. 🤘💯🔥 keep rocking DH

I understand your interpretation of the vocals, since you don't totally look at lyrical content. I've always seen the subdued vocals as an extension to the subject matter. The singer/narrator is in an interrogation room as a suspect to murder. He's not trying to do anything to gain attention from the questioning officers. I've always loved the bass line to this song. The counter melody is the hook to me.

Fair assessment I think for that song. The bass lines have been one of the things that attracted me to The Killers. Prime example of this is Sam's Town, the first song off the album of the same name. It's anchored by a killer (no pun intended..well maybe a little) chugging bass line combined with the drums that really drives this song forward and made me sit up and take notice of them. I was familiar with their first album that was just bursting at the seams with hits that admittedly were catchy, but it wasn't until I heard Sam's Town til I started to take notice. They are however an absolute mint live band though. If you get a chance to check out their Live at the Royal Albert Hall show you'll see why. That's where their lead, Brandon Flowers, really comes into his own.

Good review, The killers does a good job on recreating the sound of their favorite 80's bands, this sounds like a The Cure song and for the most part he is singing just like Bob Smith , hope you react to something live next time:)

I like only 1 band from the 00 decade and it's The Killers as new music pretty much died for me during this time. I enjoyed playing this cd quite a bit while sailing on the Potomac River. Can't believe it's been almost 20 years.

Early on in the 21st century I felt like I wasn’t checking out that many new bands. Then I heard these guys somewhere. And decided to go get the album. Actually bought probably a used CD copy- how things have changed- and definitely liked it. To me their songs have this… I don’t know, exuberance is the word I use. Because of the kind of brighter sound they have, with a sometimes driving feel, tho not on this one. But then I read that their main influences are The Cure, New Order and The Smiths- they even take their name from a fictional band in a New Order video. And I thought, no wonder I like them, having enjoyed all those bands. So this group was one of the few 2000s bands I was liking.

Love this song and album. The bass line slaps. And Brandon is a great singer and songwriter. This band is absolute amazing live.

Would love to see what you think of something off Sam's Town the vocals definitely shine more on that album. Brandon has really worked on his singing technique

One of my friends had to tell me that the baseline was somewhat plagiarized from “Barbarism Begins At Home” by the Smiths and I cannot unhear that. This song is still an absolute banger.

I would like to see you react to “Fire in Bone” a more recent track by the killers to see their evolution in sound.

This whole album is amazing, but I feel the band hasn't come close to it since though. Fair score, wonder if you'd feel the same for All These Things That I've Done. Now that's a Killer track😉

Yes! The Killers! One of my favourite bands. Plenty of great songs if you're okay with synth based indie rock haha. Great analysis of the song and especially the bassline. I was wondering what key this song was in and you playing on the bass helped me realise its in E minor, but the guitar is tuned down half a step. Not a particular impressive song on record, but they have plenty of others. Lead singer Brandon is very influenced by Springsteen. They're great live too. My two current favourites are Runaways and The Way It Was.
