I have so much respect for Tana & Brandon speaking publicly about Tana's struggles with PTSD an illness that is so often not understood & expressing it through this track. The more that it is spoken about the sooner we will breakdown the stigma and ignorance surrounding mental health challenges. Sufferers of PTSD deserve understanding and support on the same level as those who have serious physical disease or who suffered major physical trauma injury.

This song means a lot to my family. My dad suffers with depression and my mum said that this song makes her think of him. It's a really powerful song that Brandon wrote about his wife's PTSD to show people that they are not the only ones going through this. For someone who has dealt with depression, for most of my life, this song has great meaning. I am with the same woman I was with at age 14. She doesn't understand what I go thru, but SHE HAS NEVER GIVEN UP ON ME. 2 children, 8 grandchildren, a beautiful home and an extended family filled with love. The "Ruts" are unavoidable at times, but when I climb to the top of the wall, it is all sunshine and love.

I know I am 3 years late on this....but as someone who has dealt with bipolar type 1 manic depression for the past 19 years, stories like yours give me hope. Thankfully I've finally found someone who is willing to understand, and I introduce her to songs like this and she is receptive. Just want to let you know, brother, that just in case you forgot you are not alone, but you do have people like me looking for that happy ending through all the fog just as you did. Press on because I even had to be reminded that there are those that follow, and if there is anything we can gather, we may be the best equipped to facilitate them for the the real world holds because we've seen it from both sides. Much love and much happiness to you.

I like to think of the characters as Brandon and Tana. Tana is suffering from post traumatic stress disorder and wants to deal with it alone, while Brandon is trying to understand her and be there for her but she pushes him away. In the end, she feels like running away and/or giving up, but Brandon refuses to let her go through it alone. It's such a beautiful song with such a powerful meaning. Definitely correct! This article says--- The lyrical inspiration came from Flower’s wife, Tana Mundkowsky. Without giving explicit examples, Flowers said she experiences PTSD due to a traumatizing childhood. “I, of course, okayed it with her, but that ended up being a big part of this record,” Flowers says. “And so the song is from my wife’s point of view, and it’s from her perspective. And it’s about resilience. So, she’s singing to me. It’s almost like this submission, it’s her accepting like, ‘I’m facing this thing.'” Flowers’ voice was altered accordingly to take on a more feminine pitch.

La capacidad que tiene Brandon para construir historias significativas, a través de metáforas, es maravillosa; transforma la escena de un momento cotidiano en una poesía. How can someone so accurately sing about feelings?, that rut is a very lonely place, to hear someone sing about exactly how you feel is a comfort to hear it's not just you, I literally stopped in my tracks hearing this song. This band don't sing about events, they bring feelings through song and show you "Hey, head up, it gets better".
@raivedarkstone73782 жыл бұрын
When I wrote this I had sunk in to a deep, dark depression with some dark thoughts, literally 2 weeks after this an old flame came in to my life to tell me I was going to be a father and gave me the choice to be involved, I remember the line from this song "I can't keep pretending this next stop isn't mine" made me realise it was time to ground my feet and take control of my life and responsibilities. It has been an amazing eye opener , I got help and I have an amazing 6 month old daughter who has absolutely changed my world, got a sweet job and things are going my way. When I said they bring the feelings through the song and show you "heads up, it gets better" I had no idea how true this would be for me, don't give up on YOURSELF, you're worth fighting for, DON'T you give up on yourself. Not sure if the band read these comments, but honestly, thank you.

As someone who has struggled with mental disorders since I was a child, this song hit me so hard. It’s so nice to see how hard Tana is working on getting better and facing her thoughts and past, as well as how supportive Brandon is. Keep climbing and working hard because things do slowly get better if you keep at it.

You guys were great in Boston 1-7-17. My 4th time seeing you perform, and certainly won’t be my last. You guys are fantastic. Thank you for your music.

I know this song is about Brandon Flowers' wife, but I can't help but think of my school students. When parents aren't there for their children the teachers have to be.

*LYRICS* Don't give up on me, 'cause I'm just in a rut I'm climbing but the walls keep stacking up Can't keep my mind off of every little wrong I see the mouths are open but I can't hear the song I've done my best to fill 'em, but the cracks are starting to spread Hey, I won't blame you baby, go on, turn your head But don't give up on me, 'cause I'm just in a rut I'm climbing but the walls keep stacking up I can't keep pretending this next stop isn't mine The truth is on the table, and someone's gotta sign I've done my best defending, but the punches are starting to land I'm sliding into something you won't understand Don't give up on me, 'cause I'm just in a rut I'm climbing but the walls keep stacking up Don't give up on me, 'cause I'm just in a rut I'm climbing but the walls keep stacking up So I'm handing you a memory I hope you understand That steadily reminds you Of who I really am This city's always breathing I wish that it would die The kickbacks and the bachelors The fever for the velvet rope The money from my mother's men I'm not like her, you're not like them I'll climb and I'll climb I'll climb and I'll climb I'll climb and I'll climb I'll climb and I'll climb I'll climb and I'll climb I'll climb and I'll climb I'll climb and I'll climb I'll climb and I'll climb I'll climb and I'll climb Oh but don't you give up on me (Don't you give up, don't you give up) Don't you give up on me (Don't you give up, don't you give up) Don't you give up on me (I'll climb and I'll climb) Don't you give up on me (I'll climb and I'll climb)
