For as long as I live I will never forget this experience and will never let go of the things I learnt about the Khmer Rouge regime and the Cambodian massacre of the 1970's. It was a humbling, gut wrenching and upsetting experience, but an important one. The attrocities that the people of Cambodia suffered under the rule of Pol Pot must be kept alive forever...

Alfie, your account of this was spot on. When we first visited the killing fields it was horrific, the horror these people went through. Thank you so much for your respectful video. My dad lives now in Phnom Penh, and it inspires me every time I’m there on how the people there are so friendly, resilient and always have a smile on there face despite their past.🙏

I never visited the Killing Fields when I lived in Cambodia as I read a few factual books on the horror that happened. It was hard to watch this. RIP and respect. Beautiful about flowers representing souls moving on.

I find it just as horrifying that Pol Pot and the Khmer Rouge were still recognised as the 'legitimate government' for decades after this horror. It was the 'wicked Vietnamese' who kept fighting them, though regarded as traditional enemies by the Cambodians. Their turn to be the 'enemy invader' in guerrilla warfare. All too bizarre

Listening to this on headphones, the constant deep droning track is hard to bear. Maybe don't do that in future!! And that's not sugar cane, it's dragon fruit, the thorns aren't strong enough to cut a throat. There was a thorny palm leaf used.

Wonder if it is against the law to grab a former officer from S 21 and give them a taste of their own medicine Nice work by the way. 💪💪👍👍

I'm Cambodian and I have heard from my family members that former khmer rouge members in the years following 1979, were known to have been eliminated by their former victims in secret. This isn't something that is often spoken about however but just know that revenge did occur but we cannot know how just much.

There are a lot of truncated truth about history out there. I written this comment because someone called you Pol Pot but no one really know who is Pol Pot because most author truncated some part of his family history. Ben Kiernan written 400 plus pages about him but truncated two very important tragedy experienced by his family caused by the west. Cambodia was probably the only country in this world that asked the French to colonized them. The Monarch of Cambodia asked the French to protect them from the dual calamities in the hand of the Thai and Vietnamese in 1863. Twenty three years later in 1886, Pen, Pol Pot's grandfather was killed by the French ambushed for help organized supplies for rebellion against the French. The killing of Pen by the French tell a lot about who was Pol Pot. After all, the French saved the Khmer from the dual calamities and his grandfather rebelled against the French. The second tragedy his family experienced caused by the west was his childhood home was bombed and destroyed by the US bombing in 1973. These dual tragedies may cause a man to go mad, but his cabal killing in Cambodia wasn't because he went mad. But he was simply following order of his family duty. His family was always aligned with those associated with the anti-Khmer Monarchy and anti-French organization. This part of Pol Pot history should be study by most authors but its seem like every historians followed the same bandwagon of he left his parents at a very young age psychological problem.
