A couple of things about the ancient times this was made. First off this is black and white film. Videotape hadn't been invented yet, let alone digital. Therefore no pixels. Judging from the poor quality I'm guessing this is somebody's home movie. You also made mentioned his leg movements. Censors' of that time period deemed those movements obscene thus any TV broadcast of Elvis was from the waist up. I was only 4 when this made. Our family was fortunate to have a black and white TV at that time. We didn't get a color TV until the mid 60's. Different times for sure.

And talking about influence, remember this was before the internet, before cell phones, hell, before CDs, there was no UTube, Twitter or any of the communications available. That's hilarious. Thank you for the reaction. Yeah there just isn't a whole lot of good quality production values to be had from back then because everything was just so primitive. But he was so influential even as a very young man. I think this was before he went into the army but you have to remember he was born into poverty in a largely black community and he never forgot it. Just came out a lot more when he was older but at this point he's basically just showing off and entertaining his band members and audiences. He knew how to do it somehow. I can't even imagine what it would be like now if there were social media available and all the high production values. And really he was an amazing athlete. You see it not only later in his life with those deep lunges and crouches that he did but you see it even here. At points he will just go up on his toes and hold it which takes incredible core strength but he always acts like he's just having fun while he's doing it. Which he probably was.
@davebeach23433 жыл бұрын
It's important to remember that Elvis was a radical change in music. The tv producers would only allow him to be shown from the waist up, because his hip movements were considered dangerous for society. Please check his 1968 comeback special, it's probably the best video to demonstrate what an impact he made on popular culture.

The religious right thought he was an instrument of the devil. Try to imagine you are sitting watching TV back then when Elvis comes on the screen and sings heartbreak Hotel Ps. So in 1956, only around 2 percent of American homes had televisions. The vast majority of news was relayed via news print, teletype, or radio. Entertainment was usually live, or in the theater, with some of the old vaudeville performers making the jump to the TV. Theaters were also where many people learned the news of the day, where news reels were shown more so than advertisements. This Elvis performance would have been a very big event to be broadcast on the Tube!

This is cool, but if you’re really serious about Elvis then you NEED to check out this song and many others he performed in the 68’ Comeback Special. The difference between the eras is like the difference between night and day. FFS, you just said the word “ancient” to describe Elvis and that’s definitely not the case with him, but I understand why you feel that way. 1950’s Elvis does appear “ancient”, but he’s really not! If you wanted to hear a more modern Elvis then do yourself a favor and check out One Night With You, Trying To Get To You, All Shook Up, Heartbreak Hotel, Memories, Blue Suede Shoes, Don’t Be Cruel, Jailhouse Rock etc. etc. etc. And for a special treat check out Can’t Help Falling in Love, from the Comeback show and just look at how the women are mesmerized by him. I guarantee that Elvis is NOT considered in any way to being “ancient!” I KNOW you’ll both enjoy the ‘68 Comeback Special Show! After that check out Elvis performing in Vegas in 1970. Suspicious Minds, Just Pretend, Bridge Over Troubled Water, Love Me Tender where he kissed probably 35 women during the duration of the song. This comment is becoming too long now, it’s frustrating knowing what you’ll be missing out on because you didn’t know. Good luck with your channel! You’re both doing great!

I remember when I was a kid there was such a generation gap that nobody thought anyone over about 35 or so could play rock and roll, because it was still new and no one older than that did. No one older than that could stand it. Kids would hide their records because their parents would confiscate them. It was a young people’s underground revolution that succeeded. You can’t even imagine life before Elvis, who made it ok to like Chuck Berry, Little Richard, …..
