The king of Chinese descent of the Khom Empire was killed by the king of the Champa Kingdom
In Buddhist Era of 1720 during the reign of King Tri Bhu Vana Ditya Varman, the Champa Navy invaded into Tonle Sap, attacked, pillaged a large amount of treasure back to the Champa Kingdom, and burnt the capital of the Khom Empire of Phra Nakhon so that it might get terribly damaged. After having been attacked by the Champa Navy, the power of the Khom Empire of Phra Nakhon deteriorated for 4 years.
Due to the fact that King Yaso Varman the second of the Khom Empire of Phra Nakhon, who was Prince Varman’s older brother, was dethroned and was assassinated by King Tri Bhu Vana Ditya Varman, who was a king of Chinese descend. Thus, when the troops of the Champa Kingdom under the leadership of King Jaya Indra Varman the fourth invaded Mueang Phra Nakhon which was the Khom Empire’s capital, and King Jaya Indra Varman the fourth also executed King Tri Bhu Vana Ditya Varman, Prince Varman and joined forces of City-States of Lavo and Phimai did not help protect.
Note: King Yaso Varman the second, a son of King Toranin Dhara Varman the second and the Prince Varman’s older brother, reigning over the Khom Empire of Phra Nakhon during 1160 to 1166 AD, was dethroned, and assassinated by King Tri Bhu Vana Ditya Varman in 1166 AD.
With the help of the City-States of Phimai and Lavo, Prince Varman, the son of King Toranin Dhara Varman the second and Queen Sri Jaya Raja Jutha Mani, could decisively defeat the Champa Navy in the naval battles in Tonle Sap and successfully retake Mueang Phra Nakhon in Buddhist Era of 1724. Prince Varman was crowned as King of the Khom Empire of Phra Nakhon, by the name of “King Jaya Varman the seventh”.
The City-States of Phimai, which was the hometown of King Jaya Varman the seventh’s mother, had the close ties of kinship with the City-States of Lavo. Therefore, it is unsurprising that the armies of the 2 city-states helped in retaking Mueang Phra Nakhon from the Champa Kingdom.
Note: During the time under rule of Champa Kingdom, there had not been the king of the Khom Empire because the king of the Khom Empire had been caught and killed by the Champa soldiers. Therefore, no one could order the rulers of City-States of Lavo and Phimai to lead their joined forces to help retake Mueang Phra Nakhon. In spite of not being ordered by anyone, the rulers of City-States of Lavo and Phimai cooperated in leading their joined forces to take back Mueang Phra Nakhon successfully and crowned Prince Varman, the Prince of Siam City-States of Phimai as King of the Khom Empire of Phra Nakhon by the name of “Jaya Varman the seventh”. This indicated clearly that people of the ruling class in City-States of Lavo and Phimai and the Khom Empire of Phra Nakhon were close relatives, and people of the same ethnic group. This also indicated that City-States of Lavo and Phimai were not vassal states of the Khom Empire of Phra Nakhon. All the three states were independent states bound by close ties of kinship.
It is noticeable that Khom Empire in the Phra Nakhon period and Champa Kingdom had made war with each other for several times lasting for about three hundred years, but Khom Empire in the Phra Nakhon period had never been at war with City-States of La Wo and Pee Mai at all.
This means that the royal descendants, aristocrats, and all people of the ruling class of the 3 states were blood relatives and relatives by intermarriage.
