One time, and just one time I was crossing mountain pass and there was an enemy T-34-85M crossing with only the cupola showing up and I shot while moving and killed him with a single shell, that was the most satisfying RNG shot I ever had.

tried the kv2 got lakeville, saw elc in mid, disappeared so i blinded, on the move going to city south spawn, full bloom and one shotted the elc bis. kv2 very "balanced"

Remember the old HE mechanic you can get a bombardier medal just by splash 2 tanks sitting next to each other ? Those days are long gone and I miss playing my KV-13 with is 122mm derp gun ....

One thing I miss the most is the old HE mechanic I remember I got the Cruiser mk II with is 3.7 inch howitzer and get a double kill by accident Nowadays only artillery gets to do bombardier medal not derp tanks like KV-2 or O-I or SU-152 ....

I LOVED the Cruiser II with the tier V derp! Back in the days of all chat, I 1-shot a Chi-Nu shortly after the Japanese tanks went into the game. He was cussing me out in chat, but when I told him that the tank had a derp, he couldn't believe it. One of the most glorious HE shots I've gotten over the years. Was absolutely hilarious.

I remember getting my KV 2 match featured in an old Mighty Jingles Why You Heff to be Mad Compilation where I got Tank Sniper on Fisherman's Bay, with the final shot being a killing shot on a moving, near full health Su 101 at around 500m range (Why you Heff to be Mad 9 iirc, which is blocked in the US on fucking copyright grounds), good times.

My most amazing KV-2 RNG moment was on El Haluf. Right at the start of the match as i was driving to the heavy hill i dumped a random blind shot over to the other side and 1 shot a hellcat. Needless to say he was not happy.

Still my most played tank, the other day I was in a Tier 8 game in it and came up against a BZ-176, Put two AP shells into him, one in the side and one overmatch top of his turret, I still died but I brought that OP garbage down to a one-shot and my team took him out shortly after, show that even in a bad match-up this thing can still have an impact

There’s a premium version of the kv2 in console version. It has the derp gun as well BUT it’s tier 7, it’s faster than the tech tree variant, and it’s also Chinese not Russian. It’s black with a big red star painted on the turret and it’s got a cool segmented muzzle break.

I once play UDES 16, try my last shot as I know that I will be spotted in flat-open position, but some how block 2k dmg on 10s and many shot that do not hit me. Then return back to safety position.

The old HE meant that this was a consistent tank since you can always do damage when you hit. Now it feels like you need a “good” crew since you need intuition to be flexible, but still, even with the HE nerfs the KV2 still seems to do okay

06:37 - I know that this is not the case. That's why it's called the overmatch mechanic. In case of the 152mm calibre, you auto-penetrate any plate that is at most 50.66mm thick, when you're using AP.

Ok, so if I still have to pen the armor at an angle (as in, the pen of my shell has to be greater than the armor + angle making it essentially more armor) than what does the overmatching mechanic actually do? Let me rephrase: if I need X pen to get a successful shot at a Y plate how does this situation differ from a regular shot against the same plate with the same shell pen from a lower caliber?

I will solve this for you. To put it simply, overmatch removes the auto ricochet mechanic. QB is actually correct in saying you still have to pen the armour thickness. (Get ready for a wall of text about mechanics and shit) So QB is correct in theory, it’s just in practice it will virtually never happen, because if you have a shell that has calibre to overmatch, it should always have enough pen to go through the armour even at that angle tier for tier. So we have to go to low tier… One example I found was this, *an FV4005 getting shot by basically any tier 1 or 2 gun* . The fact it is apcr and not AP is very important… So let’s use the vickers medium with stock gun + ap has 38 pen which can easily overmatch the fv4005s 14mm side armour with its 47mm calibre gun. But 14mm at 87 degrees is more effective than 38mm of pen, but thanks to APs normalisation, it goes in just fine. With apcr however, despite going up to 60mm of pen, at 87 degrees, 14mm of armour is thicker than 60mm, because apcr has much less normalisation than AP. So there you have it. Even if you can overmatch a plate, you still have to pen it. Again I can only apologise for the huge wall of text.

You need to penetrate to overmatch? What?

Overmatch does not guarantee penetration. 50 mm plates are overmatched by 150+ mm guns, but you still need to penetrate. E.g. if the angle of attack is 80°, then the effective armor is nearly 300 mm, there is no way the KV-2 reaches that with its 136 mm pen. Basically there is a very thin margin where overmatch does anything for you in the KV-2 against 50 mm plates, and only when you get a high pen roll.
