Didn't want the right to vote at 16 don't want 16-17 year olds to have it now. Had the discussion when we were that age and Brexit was happening. The general sentiment was that a notable fraction of us would vote but as a joke (That was vote leave because it's funny)
@Minimmalmythicist2 ай бұрын
I agree, I have worked with 16 year olds and like them, but far too many of them don´t have the maturity to vote. There´s a huge difference mentally between an 18 year old and a 16 year old on average, 18 year olds can regulate their emotions much better, they already are young adults. Yes, there are 16 year olds capable of understanding the issues etc, but they´re a minority and we have to have a cut off point.

@Andromeda44822 ай бұрын
@@EarhirX Brexit was a recent event that dominated the discussion of age to vote. Basically when it was happening, young adults were annoyed that older people were deciding their future when it came to leaving the EU. There was a large turn out of older voters. I actually read the other day that 10% of people who voted leave are no longer alive due to old age. So the concern is valid. But the answer, doesn't make sense for reasons Minimmalmythicist points out. Mental maturity of 16 year olds is simply not there. Id argue many 18 year olds aren't either. Anecdotally there is a disparity between maturity in those who goto University and those who don't.
@EarhirX2 ай бұрын
@@Andromeda4482 In that light it is a valid concern. I was taking a look at how the UK’s population is distributed by age and it is concentrated at 40+, so most people are old or ageing. @maestroazzey2 ай бұрын
That's not how a constitutional monarchy works. The monarch is titular head of government and therefor 'announces' the plans and bills instead of the Prime Minister (who is only the 'daily executive' as it were). It is why it's called "His Majesty's Government". On the other hand, a constitutional monarchy means the Monarch's powers are bound by law and parliament. Which means the monarch cannot opinionate (in public) what he/she thinks of the plans. They are only set out in his/her name. You could basically say the monarch reigns, but doesn't rule.
@CarlosKTCosta2 ай бұрын
@@maestroazzey sure, that’s all clear, what bothers me is that the king is reading a speech that is not his. Everything you described would be very much the same but it could, IMO should, have a more personal touch where instead of just going there like a puppet he would go there and, by his own words (or the words of the team who writes the speaches for the king) tell the people how His Majesty’s Government is so competent and everything will be so much better now because The Great People of Britain voted on a great PM with a good plan IDK if that makes any sense written
