Nice video. I've read these stories of supposed (& sometimes real) excesses, particularly coming from Dahomey & Whydah. I understand the country's name is Benin (which has very little relationship with the medieval kingdom of the same name), just to allow the integration of the regions that didn't belong to historical Dahomey.

Interesting how we barely ever see anyone talk about the historical accuracies about the 300 spartans movies and Last Samurai, etc .... Hollywood movies about historical events are usually NOT always accurate. Anyways... *1)* Africans like any other race had slavery within and between the tribes and kingdoms from Whites to Arabs to Asians to Native Americans all did this. *2)* Another fact.,...many of the sold slaves includes POWs and criminals sold off. Of certain included kidnapped innocents between rivaling tribes or kingdoms *3)* Another fact..... Several African groups fought AGAINST slavery and went to war against slavers *4)* Another fact.... Africans/ blacks is the only race of people to be used as slaves by a wider variety of non-black races from whites to Arabs to Asians. You will say the word "slavery" originated from the Slavs of Europe but it doesn't matter because African blacks were being enslaved same time as Slavs if not before. *5)* Just like the colonialists did.....Foreign Slave traders also used trade manipulate tribes and empires against each other. Divide and conquer tactics used on Africans by non-blacks. This has been openly stated by the british and europeans as a tactic they admittedly employed. Whiteman goes to one tribe showing the power of guns and his medicine promising great power enticing Tribal king especially with the display of the guns .... ....whiteman says he wants payment in slaves..... ......tribal king offers POWs and criminals but whiteman says they are too little wants more ....tribal king says that's the number we have...... ...whiteman says he wants more... ...tribal king says we don't have more slaves, take what we have given, if not leave.... ...whiteman says that's ok, i will leave but first let me say hello to your neighbors/ (another tribe)... ....tribal king asks why.... ....whiteman says To give them the same choice The tribal king's options now are... ...maintain his refusal of the guns and risk an invasion or war later from a neighboring tribe visited by the whiteman Or ....kill the whiteman so he never goes to the other tribe but this would be a declaration of war and face battles from whitepeople in retaliation Or .....give in to to whiteman, send his people to be slavers and start wars for slaves to be sold to whitemen in exchange for more guns which can help win battles and gain more territory....on the promise that the whiteman does not sell guns to the neighbors. Textbook trade manipulation and coercion which is still happening TODAY! *6)* Foreign non-black slavers also indulged in kidnappings and slave raids. *7)* Arabs who were operating the TRANS SAHARAN SLAVE TRADE/TSST and INDIAN OCEAN SLAVE TRADE/IOST for at about 4 to 5 centuries BEFORE Trans Atlantic Slave Trade/TAST by Caucasians/ whites.... Basically the Arabs had groomed many whole kingdoms into slavery trade economics. *8)* Actually the FRENCH were actually very deeply involved in the Trans Atlantic Slave trade and enslaved many Africans.

I watched a video of some descendants of slaves who are currently living in Suriname. Their ancestors named the village Dahomey their former homeland after escaping from their slave masters. No white man is allowed in their village and they have kept their african traditions to this day.

About their story sadly they did do human sacrifice. But no there were no cannibalism they didn't eat any human flesh. They however sacrifice many slave to some ritual and to use a room with their blood. It is not and excess. Because today there has been a ceremony to ask for forgiveness to all those soul. It's was a sad madness from some kings of Dahomey

Sadly dahomey is easily one of the worst kingdoms when it came to slavery their economy depended on it badly so much that they tried to bring it back
