They Live is close to my heart for fight scenes because I've been in fights and they will gas you, it's not how long they last that gasses you it's how many punches without stopping by punch 12 of using full force you're gassed, you want to stop, it sucks and thats what makes sparring and cardio important because without it you will fail, have a friend who could build all day on construction spar him he's going for the kill but 10-12 punches he's panting, "They Live" conveys that sense of "you aren't a fighter you're just buff because the job demands it" because those 2 are construction workers not some soldiers just everyday folk. These guys can't fight very well, and if they have, they weren't long. The scene is so realistic to me because you can feel the energy drain as the scene goes on. At the beginning, very powerful punches are trying to hurt the other, and as it nears an end, it's more of "I just want to hit the guy" tired out of breath it feels real

Fyi, I was watching die hard with a vengeance on KZbin movies yesterday and I realized there's an elevator fight scene, very similar to the one that they eventually used in Captain America Winter soldier. I then did a Google search and I think there are a few people that compare different elevator fight scenes and there's a bunch of them over the years. However the die-hard and the Captain America one are very similar in feel and tone in the sense that there's a smaller singular hero in the middle surrounded by bad guys.
@satyb20 күн бұрын
Before die hard 3 was an elevator fight scene in Sonatine, which for gun play beats die hard but not the fight in Captain America. The Russo brothers had been making episodes of a show called Community and in one episode was a homage to Sonatine/Die Hard elevator scenes using paint ball guns.

I'd love to see your analysis of the Ekko/Jinx fight in Arcane season 1. There's a LOT of great fights in Arcane, but the Ekko/Jinx one just fits in so much storytelling into a brief segment. It covers their childhood when they played together, but Ekko has learnt and moved forwards, whilst Jinx hasn't really moved on from her trauma and does exactly the same as when she was a child, playing. Come to think of it, that does feature a gun. Maybe for Arcane, the first fight between Vi and Sevika is a classic brawl.

Old Boy was excellent, but I don't know if I ever want to watch it again. I can watch They Live over and over. That fight scene is comedic and harkens back to old-time American westerns. Yakima Canutt and John Wayne kind of pioneered some of those techniques.

Shooting with multiple cameras don't mean it's getting the job faster. I worked on a TV show that's started with 2 Camera. That's normal. But in the end the director wanted to add a 3rd camera to that set and it's slow down the tempo of production. To Ridley Scott. In my opinion, he should retire with this attitude, he's not doing his reputation any favours. That's sad.
@MarcusFlemmings20 күн бұрын
Agreed! I hope he does retire soon -- I don't watch his work anymore...it's literal trash. His last great movie was The Martian...should have tapped out there!
