I won free tickets to see The Rolling Stones on 97 Rock Buffalo NY in the 1970’s at their First time in The Buffalo Bills Rich Stadium 🏟 and I told 97 Rock 🪨 to keep the tickets I don’t want them I hate the Stones and they asked why I called in for the tickets and I said I knew the answer and wanted to see if I would be the 97th caller to answer the call They flipped at my comment. Besides I had to go to springville ny go buy a roll bar for my 1929 Ford Hot Rod the day of that concert 🎵 and going to buy that roll bar we drove right past that concer venue and traffic was so backed up a NY State Trooper stop us at the intersection in my friend Chuck’s 1965 Plymouth Fury Convertible with a 426 Wedge Stage 3 Engine and asked us long haired hippies if we were going to the concert 🎵 and we all said No were going to Springville to buy a roll bar and he replied you mean if I stop the traffic and let you all go your not going to turn around and go to that drug infested concert 🎵 we told him we’re going to Springville Sir So he stopped the traffic and let’s us go on our way then stopped traffic behind us to let the others he stopped to continue on and we drove to Springville I bought my roll bar and we stopped off at this pond and smoked our Wacky Tobaccy before we headed home I miss that 65 Fury damn

We are blessed to have had so much talent back then. The Stones had the swagger and sex appeal, the Beatles had the innovation and mainstream appeal, The Who had the hardest purest rock, and The Kinks had the most sentimental, quintessentially English material. For me personally, it goes Who, Kinks, Beatles, Stones. Beatles and Kinks switch spots depending on the day, but The Who will always be first for me!

I know music critics like to lump The Kinks with The Beatles and The Stones, but when I listen to them, they sound completely different. Ray was ahead of it’s time in terms of songwriting and musical arrangements. He was also better singer than his peers, IMO.
@allbottledup9513 Жыл бұрын
I just cannot agree with him being a better singer than his peers. Paul McCartney, John Lennon, and Roger Daltrey all had way more power and range. Ray has a beautiful voice but it shines on the calmer, quieter songs. Paul, John, and Roger all shined when they really cut loose. Why Don’t We Do It In The Road - Paul, Twist and Shout - John, Love, Reign O’er Me - Roger. I do agree with everting else though. Ray was an amazing songwriter, arranged beautiful music, and was way ahead of his time. Just don’t think he was a better singer than The Who or Beatles. Better than the Stones, for sure, because Mick was not technically a good singer.

The kinks are so underrated to the point where it actually makes me upset. The only songs you hear on the radio are Lola, and You Really Got Me Now, and occasionally the one deep track. To me, they are so much more. To me, they should be more recognized than let's say the rolling stones. So much poetry accompanied with wacky, reflective lyrics and symphonic sounds. The preservation acts impacted me just as much if not more than any other iconic 70s album. Ray, Dave, and their little band, is top of the pops if you ask me.
