This is the album that started to get airplay in the US after a long dry spell. 3 years later, they were selling out MSG and the Spectrum in Philly. I saw them in the early 80's with the original Pretenders opening. In the late 80's, after their rocket ride finally petered out, I saw Dave Davies solo acoustic in a small bar in Baltimore doing a bunch of the Kinks songs he wrote and sang and he was fantastic. This band is hugely influential. From the British Invasion until the Lola vs the Powerman and again from the late 70's until the mid 80's. A lot of what we hear today is because Dave Davies decided to slash his speaker cones with a razor blade. A tone was born!

Sleepwalker was released in 1977. In my. humble opinion it's one of the Kinks best albums. I remember when it came out. I was in HS.

I agree. I was in college when it came out. Arista finally gave The Kinks the production and sound quality they deserved, It's a gem.

This song freaked me out when I first heard it......too close to home as they say! (This and, A Rock and Roll Fantasy!) It was released as a single in 1977, but did not chart! It was played on local Rock radio stations. Sleepwalker, from the same album was also on the radio.

If you like Kinks and Country Rock, try Muswell Hillbillies from 1971! This was 1977. There is a great live version of this song out there on the Grey Whistle test.

It is not all that rocking but the best song off of Sleepwalker is Brother. It is a beautiful song with really cool lyrics. Unfortunately, the record label didn't think it was a single, but if it were, I think it would have been massive!

Nice job. Sharp comment about southern rock/Allman Brothers, I agree. The Kinks, as you apparently know, were an amazing band. Sleepwalker is one of their masterpieces, along with around 10 of their other albums ("Misfits," the album after "Sleepwalker," is terrific). You want to hear a great Kinks song you may not know, check out "This Time Tomorrow" from the album "Lola vs. Powerman and the Moneygoround." Or "People in Grey" from "Muswell Hillbillies." Or just about any damn song from any damn Kinks album. The Kinks rule.

People in these reaction music videos are reacting to average songs like this-there's a thousand rock tunes better than this. All this does is bring out 60 and 70 year old music lovers who give their favorite 'fun fact'.
