A couple of interesting bits of trivia. Ray couldn't find his guitar pick. Back stage Chuck Berry gave him the one he played this with, just before they went on. Also at this show James Brown asked Ray to do a song with him but he declined the offer. He had just flown in from Tokyo and went directly from the airport to the concert. He was exhausted. He says he will always regret not doing it. Who wouldn't! There's also an interesting story about the production of Lola for the American release, involving last minute trips between New York and London on the Concorde to change 'Coca-Cola' to 'cherry cola' on the master so it could be played on American radio. Ray had less than 24 hours to do this without breaching the contractual deadline. He sat next to Warren Beatty on the return trip. Lola was a worldwide hit.

But what about the lyrics? You weren't paying attention to the lyrics. "when she squeezed me tight, she nearly broke my spine," "she picked me up, sat me on my knee," "well I'm not dumb but I can't understand why she walks like a woman and talks like a man," "boys will be girls and girls will be boys," and "I'm glad I'm a man and so is Lola." The lyrics the lyrics.
